Job Summary

This role is located onsite in Midland, MI. Candidates must have a primary address located within the state of Michigan or be willing to move to Michigan to be considered. The Strategic Planning and Business Development Analyst provides business planning and analytical support for Administration and the Leadership at My Michigan Health. The analyst works as part of a dynamic team and interfaces with executive leaders and various leadership teams across the health system to develop strategic plans and priorities for their respective areas of responsibility.

Responsibilities
  • Support corporate strategic planning, service lines, and business development (25% of time). Deliver useful and timely analysis and direct input to leaders to identify and evaluate opportunities and priorities.
  • Produce quarterly market share reports and analyze market share data for new business opportunities (20% of time). Use the data to generate annual demand projections for the three‑year financial forecast and collaborate with leaders to apply the information in planning and priority setting.
  • Ensure accuracy of market, environmental, and competitive data; analyze market trends; assist service line leaders and Vice Presidents with identifying and exploring business development and growth opportunities or countermeasures to competitive threats (20% of time). Provide special reports, manage data and tools such as MHA Data Koala, SG2 Health Care Intelligence, and EPIC.
  • Produce value analysis to support executive leadership in evaluating partnership and merger/acquisition opportunities (15% of time).
  • Handle Certificate of Need (CON) filings in partnership with the Strategic Planning Specialist; lead the process for developing financial projections for CON filings (10% of time).
  • Create and deliver effective presentations to translate data into actionable information, using trends and statistical analysis when appropriate (10% of time).
  • Assist service line leaders with the development and ongoing maintenance of their business plans.
  • Collaborate with service line teams on financial reports and business plans, providing data accuracy, analysis, and action plan recommendations.
  • Support the development of a Mid Michigan Health Physician and Advanced Practice Provider manpower plan on an annual basis.
  • Work with service line leaders and finance to drill down to the financial detail necessary for explaining variances, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and optimal reimbursement.
Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field required; a Bachelor’s degree in another field with 3–5 years of relevant business experience is acceptable. A Master’s degree is preferred.

Required Experience and Training
  • Three to five years of experience in Health Care finance or operations preferred.
  • Minimum of two years experience analyzing, interpreting, reporting, and communicating data.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Clear communication of ideas and concepts to both individuals and groups.
  • Strong analytical and critical‑thinking skills, with proficiency in data analysis across multiple databases.
  • Effective written and verbal presentation skills.
  • Capacity to handle multiple tasks and deadlines concurrently.
  • Familiarity with statistical software and decision support systems.
  • Mandatory tuberculosis (TB) testing and OSHA training completed annually per the Exposure Control Plan.
  • Competence in Microsoft Windows; a Computer Skills Assessment is required upon hire, with possible additional learning opportunities based on results.
Skills
  • Advanced data analytical capabilities supporting multiple departments.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and related business software.
  • Ability to use statistical software and integrated financial decision support systems with clinical components.

Physical/Mental Requirements

The position requires mobility throughout the facility, ability to stand, sit, walk for extended periods, and perform routine postural changes (stooping, kneeling, crouching). Employees may lift or carry 0–10 lbs occasionally (0–33% of the workday). Personal protective equipment, including latex materials when necessary, may be required. Exposure to stressful situations, public contact, trauma, grief, and death is common. Applicants must be able to perform all functions without disqualifying physical limitations or hazardous exposures.
