Rider Coach/Instructor – Motorcycle Safety Program

The successful candidate must demonstrate experience, skills, and commitment to fostering an environment of belonging, diversity, equity and inclusion in students, faculty and staff. The Rider Coach/Instructor is responsible for providing classroom and hands‑on range instruction for the Basic Rider course. This motorcycle safety program is designed for anyone who wishes to obtain their motorcycle endorsements and may have little or no riding experience.

Rider coaches must effectively work with a diverse student population, conduct themselves in a professional manner that includes appropriate appearance and language; exhibit positive verbal and written messages; and interact positively with others in a manner free from intimidation or threat, consistent with the MSF and College mission. The Rider Coach/Instructor must be an experienced rider with excellent communication skills, and be able to set up and demonstrate range exercises in accordance with the guidelines established by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF).

Teaching a motorcycle safety course is physically demanding, requiring long hours, walking several miles in a day, bending and stooping to place cones, and occasionally pushing inoperable motorcycles for distances up to ¼ mile. Hot and cold weather conditions may add to the strenuous conditions encountered while teaching the course.

Applicants considered for interview will be required to perform a teaching demonstration and will be given a driving skills test. Candidates will be expected to serve as a role model for Delta College motorcyclists, demonstrating safe riding habits and always wearing protective gear when riding to, from, and during rider training activities.

Required Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Experienced motorcycle rider with a valid driver’s license and motorcycle (CY) endorsement.
  • Background check including driving record will be required; candidates should have no more than six points on driving record for moving violations during the 12 months before applying.
  • MSF Certified Rider Coach preferred; however, candidates may be considered if approved by the Michigan Department of State to participate in the “Rider Coach Preparation Course”. Candidates must be willing to incur all costs associated with the Rider Coach Prep training, except for the sponsor registration fee. Employment with Delta College is contingent upon successful completion of this course.
Additional Experiences Considered
  • Prior instructional experience with Delta College Motorcycle Safety Program.
Final date to receive applications

Position will remain open until filled. The College reserves the right to close the recruitment process once a sufficient applicant pool has been identified.
