Title IA Behavior Specialist

The Title IA Behavior Specialist will work with our most at-risk students in the general education setting. The Behavior Specialist will support students in developing emotional regulation skills to enhance their ability to focus on academic tasks. The Behavior Specialist will be a first responder to a student who is in need of self-regulation. The Behavior Specialist will provide specific interventions and utilize strategies that meet the individual needs of the student to help calm and regulate the student's emotions.

The Behavior Specialist will also assist teachers and develop best practice classroom management strategies. Strategies will be used that are most effective for at-risk learners, students of trauma, and economically disadvantaged individuals. The data collection of school wide behaviors will be analyzed. The Behavior Specialist will teach research based best practices to teachers during Professional Development sessions.

This is a 1.0 FTE grant funded position. This position is a non-administrative district level position staffed during the regular staffing process. The specific assignment/building are determined annually and ongoing renewal is based on funding availability.

Salary Range: $49,449-$107,023 (salary protection available).

The salary range listed reflects compensation for a full-time (1.0 FTE) position.

Qualifications:

The Behavior Specialist will possess either a valid Michigan teaching certificate, Master's degree in social work MSW/LMSW with School Social Work endorsement, or school psychologist certification. Proven experience to execute the following roles and responsibilities below are necessary:

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Title IA Behavior Specialist will be highly qualified to:

  • Work side-by-side with teachers in their classrooms to assist with classroom management. This may include creating a behavior management plan for Tier I or II students within a whole classroom setting.
  • Work with general education students who are emotionally dysregulated. They will push into the classroom or pull out to help the student in a smaller setting. The Behavior Intervention Specialist will work through a plan with students who are dysregulated and through the use of calming techniques, help the student regain control, process the problem and then re-enter the classroom.
  • Work closely with the School Success Team and the Community School Model Team. Attend meetings for both teams.
  • Facilitate training for teachers in classroom management strategies, working with students of trauma, and economically disadvantaged students.
  • Implement Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) when necessary.
  • Collaborate with school behavior resource teachers, Family Intervention Specialists, Student Support Specialists, and School Social Workers currently at Central Park. They will assist one another in creating behavior plans, home-to-school behavior plans and crisis response plans for students.
