Cost Accountant

Overview

Trinseo is a global materials company that focuses on sustainable solutions. The Cost Accountant partners with key operational and finance personnel to analyze manufacturing cost information, execute cost accounting month‑end close activities, and prepare management reports for an entire business or manufacturing area. This is a hybrid position based in Midland, MI.

• Execute critical month‑end close assignments, including recording timely cost accounting transactions (journal entries), preparing supporting schedules and account reconciliations, and ensuring reserves are adequately reflected in the period.
• Prepare management reports focused on production, inventory, variance analyses, and plant operations.
• Partner with the FP&A team and other accounting functional areas.
• Prepare accurate and timely inter‑company and third‑party billings for certain site services performed.
• Manage and monitor cost data, including master data, for accuracy and proper linkage to management reporting, legal entity analysis, and corporate reporting requirements.
• Ensure accurate financial reporting (both balance sheet and income statement) that complies with Corporate Accounting Policies.
• Provide local input requirements into global work process designs and ensure processes are documented and kept up to date.
• Perform SOX‑related requirements timely; confirm that functions such as Supply Chain, Purchasing, Payables, and Manufacturing have completed their applicable Sarbanes‑Oxley requirements.
• Support plant or business‑related audits and local statutory matters.
• Limited travel in the fourth quarter to participate in physical inventory activities.

Minimum

Education Required:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance/Accounting (or local equivalent).
• 4+ years of relevant experience in a multinational manufacturing company (preferred).
• Previous accounting and/or operational finance experience in industrial chemicals and publicly traded companies (preferred).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Experience with SAP environments, S/4 HANA and ECC

• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated leadership skills capable of inspiring and influencing others.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, time management, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel.
• Ability to learn new systems quickly (a plus).
