Consumer Loan Underwriter

We are seeking a knowledgeable and member-focused Consumer Loan Underwriter to join our team. In this role, you will evaluate and underwrite consumer, indirect, and student loan applications, ensuring decisions align with established lending policies, regulatory requirements, and our commitment to exceptional member service.

This position earns a competitive minimum starting hourly pay of $28. We provide terrific benefits, including quarterly and annual incentives, medical, dental, vision, a 401(k) plan, paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO).

You will play a key role in helping members find the right lending solutions while supporting the growth and success of the credit union.

In 1937, the country was still in the throes of a severe economic depression that underscored the need for a workable financial plan to enable Dow employees to save for emergencies and obtain convenient, low-cost credit. • Review and underwrite consumer loan applications efficiently and accurately
• Make informed credit decisions within established policies and authority limits
• Process loan applications via web, phone, and indirect dealers
• Communicate loan decisions to members and loan officers, ensuring clarity on next steps
• Cross-sell credit union products and services, such as GAP and loan protection options
• Provide expert guidance to loan officers and counsel members on credit matters
• Work collaboratively with vendors, indirect dealers, and other credit union departments
• Maintain underwriting manuals and stay updated on lending regulations

• 3-5 years of consumer underwriting or related consumer lending experience
• Strong knowledge of consumer loan underwriting principles
• Ability to balance risk assessment with member-focused solutions
• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
• Sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to handle confidential information
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with frequent interactions
