Patient Care Technician - Progressive Care Unit

Patient Care Technician (PCT) role under supervision of a Registered Nurse, performing activities of daily living and certain treatments per established policies and guidelines.

This position works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. The PCT performs and assists with individual activities of daily living as well as certain treatments for patient care under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse according to established policies, procedures and guidelines.

• Under the direction of the nurse, prioritizes and organizes care of assigned patients, performing basic nurse’s aide skills as outlined in orientation, competencies, policy and procedures. (50%)
• Documents on patient’s chart, any treatments and pertinent observations. Provides report to team on tasks completed. (25%)

  Duties And Responsibilities:
  
  Supports the mission, goals, policies and standards of nursing. Medical Center and unit policies and work rules are recognized, supported and implemented. Provides for the age specific needs of the population served according to department standards and policies/procedures. Emergency care/safety:
  Performs according to procedure in all medical center emergency situations. Provides and ensures safe and secure environment for the patient. Provides excellent customer service:
  Demonstrates professionalism and courtesy at all times. Access to the medication room and supply room for stocking as appropriate. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.

• BLS - Basic Life Support
• Required Equivalent Experience – Within 3 months of hire or transfer
• PCT - MMH PCT/CNA/EMT/LPN Certification
• Required Equivalent Experience – Must hold an internal Mid Michigan Health Patient Care Technician certification or a current State of Michigan registry document as a CNA or completion of EMT, LPN or RN licensure in Michigan, or Paramedic licensure. Acceptance criteria include various credential pathways (e.g., AMT MAMT RMA, CMA, CCMA) per policy. For current PCTs with expired certifications, an opportunity to achieve an internal Mid Michigan Health PCT certification will be offered
• TEAM ADVANCED – Techniques for Effective Aggression Mgt (within 6 months of hire; 24 months if hired on/before 12/31/2023)

• High School Diploma or GED

• Interpersonal skills needed to communicate with individuals and groups and to interact with people at all levels.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Competency in Microsoft Windows and willingness to participate in further learning opportunities offered by My Michigan Health.

• Exposure to stressful situations, including public contact, trauma, grief and death.
• Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (may include latex or substitutes).
• Mobility to move about the facility with or without assistive devices; ability to perform job duties as described.
• Adequate vision and hearing with or without assistive devices.
• Frequent sitting/standing/walking; postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching may be required.
• Exposure to blood borne pathogens; compliance with blood borne pathogen and TB testing requirements.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, maintain regular attendance, and stay alert.
• Dexterity for handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling; repetition may occur.
• Physical Demand Level: Medium. Lifting/carrying requirements and movement specifications as described by policy.
