Summary
The Pharmacy Medication Technician assists with the accurate and complete collection of medication history data in a variety of hospital settings. This role prioritizes obtaining an accurate and complete medication list upon hospital admission to ensure patient safety.
Responsibilities- (20%) Obtains an accurate and complete admission medication list via a face‑to‑face interview with patients to include prescription, over‑the‑counter, and herbal products noting drug name, dose, frequency, compliance, and last dose taken. This may require collaboration with alternative information sources such as family, physician office, nursing home, or retail pharmacy.
- (20%) Communicates effectively and uses advanced interviewing skills to conduct the medication history interview with patients in a professional and non‑invasive manner.
- (15%) Problem solves and applies critical thinking skills in obtaining admission medication lists for a wide variety of patient populations.
- (15%) Applies advanced computer skills to gather information and document the patient’s admission medication list.
- (15%) Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety, and medical information.
- (15%) Obtains and documents any known drug allergies and reactions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Seeks to identify process problems and utilizes problem‑solving to produce a positive outcome. Performs duties in a cost‑effective manner, striving to avoid wasting resources. Maintains job‑related skills and educational development and assists in the education of other team members. Supports and abides by all My Michigan Health policies and procedures. Acts in a professional manner reflecting the mission and values of My Michigan Health.
Performs other responsibilities as requested by any member of the management team. Assists with training of new associates and performs special projects as needed. Able to perform all Pharmacy Technician duties and responsibilities if physically staffing in the inpatient pharmacy. Other duties as assigned.

Experience:
New hires and transfers before October 1, 2015 must possess a full technician license or limited pharmacy license through the state of Michigan. Effective October 1, 2015, all incumbents, new hires and transfers to this position must possess a pharmacy technician temporary, limited, or full license through the state of Michigan. Individuals with a temporary license must obtain a full license within 365 days of obtaining the temporary license. - Qualification Source: MI

GENSTUDY
- One or more years of experience as a pharmacy technician (retail preferred) or allied health professional, with knowledge of medications including brand/generic names, available dosages, frequencies, and indications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with people of diverse backgrounds and at all levels within the medical center and in the community.
- Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and to convey ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
- Ability to create and foster a cooperative teamwork environment.
