Physical Demands: Occasionally is a high noise, high dust, dirt, and grease environment, regular exposure to moving machinery and/or vehicles, works with poor ventilation or with regular exposure to odors, and regular exposure to weather including heat, cold, dampness and/or humidity. Frequently is in a normal office situation, works on slippery or uneven surfaces, regular exposure to infectious material/diseases and regular exposure to chemicals, solvents.

Work Environment: Occasionally requires sitting at a desk or table, balancing to prevent falling or erratic movement, requires repeated reaching by extending hand(s) and/or arm(s) in any direction, driving and/or operating heavy equipment, moderate lifting or carrying 26-50 lbs. without assistance, requires handling by seizing, holding, grasping, or turning hands, requires ability to hear, and requires distinguishing colors and/or depth perception to judge distances.

Frequently requires pushing and/or pulling, climbing ladders or scaffolds and requires good near or distant vision. Stoop, stretch, reach, kneel, bend, twist and walk to accomplish tasks. Read, write, understand and communicate instructions, warnings and Safety Data Sheets (SDS). Operate a motor vehicle.

Position Summary Information

Position Accountabilities and Essential Functions

An employee classified as a Custodian will perform work throughout the college maintained facilities providing cleaning and building sanitation. The hours of this position are shifts are scheduled for five consecutive days Sunday – Saturday, 10pm – 6:30am. The employee will operate the necessary equipment and properly use the college approved cleaning products to maintain the facilities which will include but not limited to classrooms, locker rooms, restrooms, elevators, office spaces, laboratory spaces, lobbies, corridors, cafeteria areas and utility spaces.

A Custodian will do the cleaning of all building materials including but not limited to walls, ceilings, floors, windows, vents, doorways, swimming pool and furniture. This position will be expected to perform the following duties, dusting, mopping, washing, buffing, sweeping, vacuuming and trash removal. A Custodian will be expected to maintain all custodial equipment, stock the necessary products, assist with event setups, report broken articles and provide a safe working environment while performing the above duties.

A Custodian may be assigned to crew lead personnel on an as needed basis.

• Cleaning, sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, waxing, polishing, buffing, dusting, vacuuming, window washing, etc., as assigned by the crew leader and/or the custodial supervisor.
• Operate and maintain floor machine scrubbers, vacuums and other janitorial accessories.
• Report all broken articles, damaged surfaces and make minor repairs.
• Assist in setting up equipment for activities and special events.

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be able to pass a physical examination and drug screening test.
• Must be able to work independently/or as part of a group with minimum supervision.
• Must be physically able to perform all duties within the classification and lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
• Must be willing to adapt to change and multi task.
• Ability to interact well with students, employees from all areas of the college and community members.

• Good working knowledge of disinfectants and cleaning agents.
