Overview

Maintenance and Reliability Leader within our METHOCELTM and ETHOCELTM production facilities as well as our Health and Pharma Solutions Process R&D facility. The Maintenance, and Reliability Leader will be responsible for serving as an influential leader and technical resource to optimize plant operations, resolve plant problems, and enable safe and efficient production of high-quality products. This person has responsibility and accountability for engineering and maintenance personnel to support achievement of the plant, site, business, and corporate goals.

The Maintenance and Reliability Leader provides leadership to the plant maintenance and reliability engineering teams and acts as a primary back-up to the Site Leader. This position is located in Midland, MI.

What You’ll Do
  • EH&S / Maintenance, Engineering & Reliability Leadership:
    Partners with the Site leader to drive a strong personal safety, process safety, quality, and environmental improvement plan to achieve EHS&Q goals and ensure compliance with regulatory and permit requirements.
  • Relentlessly pursues maximum plant reliability to reduce department unplanned events and support safe operations. Teaches and encourages behaviors to support reliable operations.
  • Keeps Life Critical Standards in focus, applying them with priority and coaching, with follow up and investigations as needed.
  • Ensures appropriate technical review of work plans (maintenance or improvement) to apply Life Critical Standards appropriately.
  • Partners with Site Leader to allocate capital to design out hazards, improve environmental compliance & sustainability, and reduce hazards. Implements administrative and process controls for safe and reliable operation.
  • Focal point for managing the Site Budget in close alignment with the Plant Leader and Site Cost Accountant. Responsible for running the plant COGS team and mentoring other leaders in budget management and forecasting.
  • Coaches, challenges status quo, and intervenes when needed to improve safety and operations. Maintains active field presence to understand plant needs and personnel behavior.
  • Ensures the operation team is supported from a technical resource perspective, including production engineers, maintenance and reliability engineers, process automation support and plant maintenance.
  • People/Organizational Effectiveness:
    Supports Site Leader with motivation, context, and communication. Inspires an empowered organization with servant leadership. Maintains expertise in reliability and maintenance for the facility.
  • Works with Human Resources to hire reliability engineers and maintenance staff with strong skills. Ensures onboarding and training for success and plant expertise.
  • Manages a workgroup of 19+ technical staff and maintenance trades, including coaching for career progression and discipline as needed.
  • Direct supervisor of the Maintenance and Reliability Team and drives accountability, including coordinating maintenance turnarounds, break-fix work, and maintenance strategies.
  • Ensures effective application of the Site Maintenance Work Process with ownership of related goals, budget, and alignment; maintains event management representation and contracts with contractors.
  • Owns Maintenance and Reliability Key Performance Indicators and ensures compliance with ISO 9001:2015, FSSC, EXCiPACT and other regulatory standards.
  • Models a customer-focused culture and participates in Midland Management Team for site-wide leadership on safety, quality, financials, HR, environmental, and regulatory concerns.
  • Develops technical employees through goal setting, performance management, promotion processes, and development plans to drive growth and align with skills and interests.
  • Resolves discipline issues and escalates as needed. Fosters collaboration across production, engineering, and maintenance and supports labor agreements if applicable.
  • Coaches FSFL and Tech roles to be effective in their positions.
  • Business Owner Mindset / Financial Acumen / Continuous Improvement:
    Knows the facility’s business model and strategy and explains how the plant fits into the business and corporation.
