Summary

14K sign‑on bonus for qualified candidates. This position performs a variety of integrated pre and post‑operative critical care functions, intuitively using the nursing process while applying a broad nursing knowledge in a caring, concerned manner.

• Assess patient for physical, emotional, psych/social and family support.
• Organize and coordinate all aspects of patient care according to the patient’s real and/or perceived needs.
• Evaluate patient progress by correlating patient information with nursing knowledge to determine if goals are being met according to the patient’s plan of care or clinical path.
• Consult and collaborate with members of the healthcare team in planning and implementing total patient care for individuals.

• Provide for the age‑specific needs of the population served according to department standards and policies/procedures, including adolescents (13‑17), adults (18‑64), and later adults (65+).
• Demonstrate proficiency in nursing skills to carry out the patient’s plan of care.
• Communicate interactions, both verbal and written, that clearly and positively accomplish desired patient care as a collaborative effort.
• Educate patients and families.
• Provide teaching, support, and coordination of healthcare plans for patient and family through the acute phase of illness, as needed.
• Promote clinical knowledge development, including critical thinking skills and improve strategies for comparing clinical judgment through research and continuing education.
• Other duties as assigned.

• ACLS:
  Advanced Cardiac Life Support – Equivalent experience within 12 months of hire or transfer.
• BLS:
  Basic Life Support – Equivalent experience within 3 months – AHA.
• RN:
  Registered Nurse – Equivalent experience within 12 months – MI.
• Team Advanced:
  Techniques for Effective Aggression Management – Equivalent experience within 6 months (employees on or before 12/31/2023 have 24 months to complete).

Associate degree in nursing;
Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.

• Complete orientation process as described in the Critical Care Competency Policy and as outlined for the care of post‑operative cardiothoracic surgery patient and general surgery patient requiring critical care nursing skills.
• Open‑heart trained within one year of hire and with manager approval.
• Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and to interact with people at all levels.
• Competency in Microsoft Windows and the ability to participate in further learning opportunities offered by My Michigan Health.

• Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, trauma, grief, and death.
• Ability to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitutes.
• Ability to move freely about the facility and perform the job functions as outlined.
• Vision and hearing necessary with or without assisted devices.
• Frequent standing, walking, or sitting for long periods; may require postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
• Exposure to blood‑borne pathogens; must follow My Michigan Health blood‑borne pathogen and TB testing as required.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, and maintain regular and predictable attendance.
• Dexterity requirements for handling, reaching, grasping, and repeating movements.
• Physical demand level:
  Medium. Must lift or carry 21‑50 lbs. for 0‑33% of the workday; 34‑66% of the workday 20 lbs.; 67‑100% of the day 10 lbs.
