Summary

This position, in collaboration with a physician, develops an anesthesia care plan. Provides IV sedation and/or monitored anesthesia care and/or administers general, regional or local anesthesia for a variety of surgical, obstetrical, diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. Monitors patients accurately and performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), ventilation or life support measures during emergencies throughout the Medical Center. Manages the patients’ physiological condition while under anesthesia and initiates corrective actions as necessary or as directed by a physician.

Assists with other departmental or professional duties as requested by the Manager of Anesthesiology.

Sign‑on Bonus

Sign‑on bonus of up to $75,000 and relocation included.

Responsibilities
  • Perform pre‑anesthetic evaluation and preparation.
  • Prepare the OR Suite for all types of anesthesia.
  • Administer, manage, and monitor anesthesia care during induction, maintenance, and emergence.
  • Provide post‑anesthesia care and evaluation.
Certifications and Licensures
  • ACLS:
    Advanced Cardiac Life Support (equivalent experience within 12 months of hire or transfer)
  • RN:
    Registered Nurse (MI, essential)
  • BLS:
    Basic Life Support (equivalent experience within 3 months of hire or transfer)
  • CRNA:
    Certified RN Anesthetist (essential)
  • NBCRNA:
    National Board Certified RN Anesthetist (equivalent experience: member‑council on re‑certification of nurse anesthesiology)
Required Education

Education:

Nurse Anesthetist. Equivalent experience: knowledge of anesthesia normally acquired through completion of an accredited program of nurse anesthesia culminating in certification and licensure in the State of Michigan. May also be in the process of completing final coursework and waiting to take state boards.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Takes appropriate safety precautions to ensure safe administration of anesthesia care.
  • Identifies opportunities for improving quality, including patient outcomes and operational efficiency within the department.
  • Provides clinical support to other departments within the Medical Center.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Experience, Training and Skills
  • Written, organizational, and interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups at all levels.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform basic and advanced skills required for practicing anesthesia.
  • Skills may include adult and pediatric venipuncture, arterial line insertion, medication calculation, sterile technique, airway maintenance, administration and management of regional anesthetics.
  • Compliance with all Medical Center policies and practices as described in the employee handbook.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and willingness to participate in further learning opportunities offered by the company.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is an additional preferred certification.
Physical/Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions

Exposure to stressful situations, including public contact, trauma, grief, and death.

Able to wear personal protective equipment including latex materials or a suitable substitute.

Must be able to move freely throughout the facility with or without an assisted device and perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.

Overall vision and hearing are necessary, with or without assisted devices.

Frequently required to sit, stand, or walk for long periods, with frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching.

Some exposure to blood‑borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must comply with blood‑borne pathogen and TB testing as required.

Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, attend regularly and predictably, and stay awake.

Overall dexterity required for handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling tasks.

Physical demand level is light; must occasionally lift or carry 11–20 lbs (0–33% of the workday), frequently 10 lbs or huddle/push/pull of arm/leg controls (34–66%).
