Registered Nurse

The Registered Nurse provides direct care to patients using the nursing process. This includes ongoing assessment of the total patient. The RN provides interventions to treat the presenting symptoms and evaluates the effect of nursing interventions and patient's responses. The RN functions as a team leader/member and resource to others. The RN delegates, oversees and provides direction to support staff. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to establish goals and outcomes for each patient.

The Registered Nurse must have:

• BLS:
  Basic Life Support within 1 month of hire or transfer from AHA.
• RN:
  Registered Nurse from MI.

The Registered Nurse must have:

• An Associates degree in Nursing.
• A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is preferred.

The Registered Nurse is also responsible for:

• Demonstrating the My Michigan Health mission, vision and values.
• Behaving in a courteous, professional manner at all times with patients, visitors, and co-workers.
• Interpreting information and reporting pertinent data to the physician.
• Educating patient/family according to assessed learning needs considering readiness, ability, preferences, and cultural/spiritual variables.
• Organizing and prioritizing the needs of groups of patients or an individual patient.
• Managing assignments and performing routine duties on the unit.
• Instructing other team members when appropriate, explaining goals and rationale for individualized care.
• Demonstrating understanding of clinical pathways and utilizing appropriately.
• Maintaining a professional demeanor in all situations.
• Documenting in an accurate, clear, and concise way and including pertinent clinical data.
• Sharing information and reporting significant changes and/or abnormal findings to appropriate team members in a timely manner.
• Participating in regulatory surveys.
• Participating in the performance improvement activities.
• Assisting with orientation and ongoing competencies.
• Providing a safe and secure environment for patient care.
• Maintaining knowledge with current trends and professional standards within a specialty.
• Demonstrating understanding of role in emergency preparedness procedures.
• Assemblies the patient's chart.
• Completes and documents patient's medical history.
• Delivers pre-operative and discharge instructions in the manner best suited for the patient and family.
• Ensuring that current history and physical is on the chart, that the plan of care in the history and physical match surgical consent, and the surgical consent is signed by patient.
• Ensuring completion and documentation of necessary lab work, x-rays, and cardiograms for surgical patients and communicating necessary results to the surgeon and anesthesiologist in a timely manner.
• Completing procedural checklist.
• Initiating physician orders and completing necessary tasks to ensure that patient is safely prepared for surgery.
• Participating in direct patient care.
• Performing other clinical and technical aspects of care in accordance with all established policies and procedures within the health system.
• Practicing within the scope of practice as designated by the state of licensure.
• Delegating appropriate tasks and oversee completion of tasks by other members of the team.
• Assisting anesthesiologist in performing nerve blocks by ensuring proper site marking, completion of safety check list, signing of consent, and maintaining sterile field.
• All other duties as assigned.

The Registered Nurse must have:

• Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
• Knowledge, ability, and competence in treating unit specific patient populations.
• Follow My Michigan Health blood borne pathogen and TB testing as required.
• Demonstrate competency in Microsoft Windows.
• One year of acute care experience.
