Responsibilities
- Assess patient for physical, emotional, psych/social, and family support.
- Organize and coordinate all aspects of patient care according to the patient’s real and/or perceived needs.
- Evaluate patient progress by correlating patient information with nursing knowledge to determine if goals are being met according to the patient’s plan of care or clinical path.
- Consult and collaborate with members of the health care team in planning and implementing total patient care for individuals.
- Demonstrate proficiency in nursing skills to carry out the patient’s plan of care.
- Communicate interactions, both verbal and written, that clearly and positively accomplish desired patient care as a collaborative effort.
- Educate patients and families; provide teaching, support, and coordination of health care plans during the acute phase of illness as needed.
- Promote clinical knowledge development including critical thinking skills and improve strategies for clinical judgment through research and continuing education.
- Access the medication room and supply room for stocking purposes as required by the job code.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- ACLS:
Advanced Cardiac Life Support – Equivalent
Experience:
Within 12 months of hire or transfer. - DIMC:
Dysrhythmia Interpretation Man – Equivalent
Experience:
Within 12 months of hire or transfer. - BLS:
Basic Life Support – Equivalent
Experience:
Within 3 months of hire or transfer (AHA). - RN:
Registered Nurse – Equivalent
Experience:
Within 12 months of hire or transfer (MI). - TEAM ADVANCED:
Techniques for Effective Aggression Management – Equivalent
Experience:
Within 6 months of hire or transfer (Employees on or before 12/31/2023 will have 24 months to complete).
Associate degree in Nursing (Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred).
Other Information- Completion of orientation process as directed by the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nurse manager and critical care educator.
- Interpersonal skills to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels.
- PCCN certification preferred.
- Competency in Microsoft Windows expected; further learning opportunities may be required.
- Exposure to stressful situations, trauma, grief, and death.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment, including latex materials or appropriate substitutes.
- Freedom to move throughout the facility with or without assistance; perform job functions as outlined.
- Vision and hearing sufficient with or without assistive devices.
- Required to sit, stand, walk for extended periods; may need frequent postural changes.
- Exposure to blood borne pathogens; adherence to blood borne pathogen and TB testing.
- Capacity to handle multiple tasks, work independently, maintain regular and predictable attendance, and stay awake.
- Dexterity for handling, reaching, grasping, and other fine motor tasks; repetitive movements may be frequent.
- Medium physical demand level: occasional lifts/carries 21‑50 lbs (0‑33% of workday), frequent lifts 20 lbs (34‑66% of workday), constant light loads 10 lbs (67‑100% of workday).
