Sign‑on bonus up to $75,000 and relocation included.

Summary

This position, in collaboration with a physician, develops an anesthesia care plan. It provides IV sedation and/or monitored anesthesia care, and administers general, regional or local anesthesia for a variety of surgical, obstetrical, diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. The anesthetist monitors patients accurately and performs CPR, ventilation or life support measures during emergencies throughout the Medical Center. The anesthetist manages the patient’s physiological condition while under anesthesia and initiates corrective actions as necessary or as directed by a physician.

Assists with other departmental or professional duties as requested by the Manager of Anesthesiology.

Responsibilities
  • Perform pre‑anesthetic evaluation and preparation (25%).
  • Prepare the OR suite for all types of anesthesia (25%).
  • Administer, manage, and monitor anesthesia care during induction, maintenance, and emergence (25%).
  • Provide post‑anesthesia care and evaluation (25%).
Certifications and Licensures
  • ACLS:
    Advanced Cardiac Life Support (within 12 months of hire or transfer).
  • BLS:
    Basic Life Support (within 3 months of hire or transfer).
  • CRNA:
    Certified RN Anesthetist (essential).
  • NBCRNA:
    National Board CRNA (member council re‑certification of Nurse Anesthesiology).
Required Education
  • Education:

    Nurse Anesthetist. Knowledge of anesthesia acquired through completion of an accredited program of nurse anesthesia culminating in certification and licensure in the State of Michigan (or in process of completing final coursework and awaiting state board).
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Takes appropriate safety precautions to ensure safe administration of anesthesia care.
  • Identifies opportunities for improving quality, including patient outcomes and operational efficiency within the department.
  • Provides clinical support to other departments within the Medical Center.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Experience, Training, and Skills
  • Written, organizational, and interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups at all levels.
  • Ability to perform basic and advanced anesthesia skills such as adult and pediatric venipuncture, arterial line insertion, medication calculation and effects, sterile technique, airway maintenance, and administration and management of regional anesthetics.
  • Compliance with all Medical Center policies and practices as described in the employee handbook.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows; further learning opportunities may be required.
  • Preferred certification:
    Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Physical and Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions

Exposure to stressful situations, including public contact, trauma, grief and death.

Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials.

Can move freely throughout the facility, with or without an assisted device, and perform all job functions.

Requires vision and hearing with or without assisted devices.

Frequently required to sit, stand or walk for long periods; may require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.

Expose to blood borne pathogens and other infectious materials; must follow blood borne pathogen and TB testing requirements.

Must handle multiple tasks, work independently, attend regularly and stay alert.

Requires dexterity for handling, reaching, grasping, etc., with possible repetitive motions.

Physical Demand Level: Light. Must occasionally lift or carry 11‑20 lbs., frequently lift 10 lbs., and walk/stand/push/pull arm or leg controls.
