Summary
This position performs routine and preventative maintenance, installs, lubricates, and repairs equipment and machinery throughout the Medical Center complex and grounds as directed by the Facility Management or designated leader.
Responsibilities- Work from verbal and written orders, sketches, drawings, and manufacturer’s specifications.
- Lays out, constructs, covers, coats, alters, and repairs throughout the Medical Center buildings and grounds complex using skills in plumbing, masonry, carpentry, refrigeration, and electricity. Operate and maintain steam boiler equipment, air compressors, domestic water systems, cooling towers and all related equipment and machinery.
- Perform programmed maintenance, installs, lubricates and repairs equipment. Responsible for materials and solutions used.
- Perform a variety of cleaning jobs related to the maintenance of the interior and exterior of the Medical Center complex.
- Rearrange, move, relocate and store equipment or supplies.
- Operate snow and ice removal equipment and tools.
- Assist in maintenance of grounds and parking lots.
- Be familiar with and comply with governing agencies such as JCAHO, MIOSHA, Michigan Department of Community Health, Fire Marshal, and related codes, regulations, and procedures.
- Complete records and provide informational data on a timely basis.
- Instruct and/or help less experienced maintenance personnel.
- Perform other duties as required, including sign design fabrications and installation.
- Use necessary tools, machines, and equipment pertinent to the work performed.
- Maintain records.
- Participate in further learning opportunities offered by My Michigan Health, if required.
- Demonstrate competency in Microsoft Windows.
- Driver's License (DRIVERSLIC)
- High School Diploma or equivalent (high). Essential.
- General studies specialization (GENSTUDY). Essential.
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment normally acquired through 2–3 years of experience in the maintenance field.
- Ability to interpret prints, schematic specifications, and codes.
- Completion of mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.
- Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, trauma, grief, and death.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitutes.
- Capability to move freely about the facility with or without an assisted device.
- Overall vision and hearing necessary with or without assisted devices.
- Frequently required to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
- Some exposure to blood-borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow My Michigan Health blood borne pathogen and TB testing requirements.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, maintain regular and predictable attendance, and remain alert.
- Overall dexterity required for handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling. May require repetitive movements on a regular basis.
- Physical demand level:
Heavy
. Must occasionally (0–33% of the workday) lift or carry 51–100 lbs., frequently (34–66% of the workday) 50 lbs., and constantly (67–100% of the workday) 20 lbs. Also requires walking/standing/pushing/pulling of arm/leg controls.
