Whitley Penn, a leading CPA and consulting firm, is looking for a Tax Senior Associate to join our team. The Tax Senior Associate will lead tax engagements, prepare and review tax documents, and recommend tax strategies by researching and interpreting tax laws. Seniors are responsible for planning and executing engagements and special assignments, supervising and training associates, reviewing the work of associates, and communicating with clients.

Seniors must comply with all professional and regulatory standards.

How Will You Make an Impact?
  • Lead tax engagements, including planning and executing tax engagements, managing client deadline expectations, completing returns, and managing budgets.
  • Review and/or prepare Form 1065, 1040, 1120, and 1120S tax returns, quarterly estimates, extensions and year-end projections.
  • Recommend tax strategies by researching federal, state and local taxation issues.
  • Maintain compliance with regulations by forwarding required information to federal, state and local authorities.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships and proactively work with client management to gather necessary tax information, identify issues, and make recommendations for business improvements.
  • Respond to IRS and state tax authority inquiries.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor tax staff and interns, including review of staff prepared work papers and evaluating performances.
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the tax process and the Internal Revenue Code.
  • Assist with business proposals, networking, and recruiting opportunities.
  • Demonstrate dedication, a positive attitude, self-motivation, teamwork, initiative, and a willingness to learn.
  • Participate in technical and professional training throughout the year.
How Will You Get Here?
  • At least 2 years of experience in public accounting, demonstrating a proven progression in tax return complexity, scope, and research.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting;
    Master’s degree preferred.
  • Active CPA license or CPA eligibility.
  • Proficiency in use of technology and accounting programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, the Internal Revenue Code and other official tax laws, regulations, and guidance.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the tax preparation process.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to plan and execute multiple engagements and projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing; active listening and clear communication of ideas and information.
  • Strong relationship building capabilities; ability to work respectfully and productively with diverse individuals in a variety of roles.
