Assists the Elections Administrator with management of the voter registration component of the Elections Office by performing specialized procedures related to the maintenance of the county's voter registration database and perform election duties. Will be cross-trained with other personnel.

  • Provides essential voter registration management to Elections Administrator in accordance with the state election code.
  • Assist in maintaining voter registration database including adding new registrants, processing address confirmations, voter registration cancellations, probates, the State Exemption list, rejections, duplicate voters, suspensions and processing voter notifications for a portion of the alphabet.
  • Works Midland County Deaths list per schedule.
  • Assist in answering main telephone line, greeting office visitors, and assisting public with voter registration questions.
  • Procures poll workers for elections and assists in maintaining poll worker database.
  • Responsible for scheduling and certifying Volunteer Deputy Registrars for Midland County
  • Organize, maintain, and keep inventory of Volunteer Deputy Registrar applications and supplies
  • Assist in maintaining the Elections website, posting updates as needed along with any necessary notices and reports.
  • Prepares and submits required reports to the Secretary of State.
  • Responsible for preparing security seals for ballot marking devices and Provisional Ballot Bags.
  • Responsible for programming and testing check-in computers for each Early Voting and Election Day polling location.
  • Responsible for programming and testing each ballot marking device for each Early Voting and Election Day polling location.
  • Responsible for processing Limited Voters during Early Voting; prepare Balotar station with District map and necessary stamps for ballot preparation.
  • Responsible for investigating Provisional Ballots after an election; submitting voter information to DPS to check eligibility, verifying a voter did not already vote by mail, etc
  • Works with Assistant Election Administrator as needed to perform election duties.
  • Responsible for receiving voted ballot boxes at the end of Early Voting and Election night in designated Ballot Room.
  • Responsible for retrieving check-in data from check-in computers after an election
  • Run daily reports and enter voter participation for Limited and Provisional voters
  • Responsible for keeping up with new Election laws and changes.
  • Conduct training for election judges and clerks on election equipment, forms and election processes
  • Troubleshooting equipment during elections at various locations. Requires use of personal vehicle
  • Local and out of county travel is a requirement.
  • Weekend work and overtime in preparation for an election, during an election, and immediately after an election is a requirement.
  • Performs such other related duties as assigned by Elections Administrator/Supervisor
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Requires high school graduation, or its equivalent, plus 3 years office experience and public interaction or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Texas Driver's License, notary, bondable

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of the Texas Election Code, voter registration and election processes and terminology. Bilingual (English/Spanish). Standard office practices.

SKILLS/ABILITIES

Excellent organizational skills, ability to work independently and deal effectively with the public, other employees and elected officials, and exhibit initiative. Ability to orally translate English/Spanish a plus. Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet development, and database software applications (Word, Excel, Power Point). Demonstrates a professional attitude and appearance. Stay up to date with procedures and processes.
