POSITION: Executive Director of Special Ed Services
EXEMPT STATUS: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Associate Superintendent
SUPERVISES: Assigned personnel
EDUCATION:
- Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field
EXPERIENCE: Five years of successful special education teaching experience
Position Function/Purpose
Direct the implementation and maintenance of programming for students ages 3-21 who receive services through Special Education, Section 504, Dyslexia, Homebound, and/or CEHI in conformance with District, State, and/or Federal requirements
Major Responsibilities
- Collaborates with campus principals for the purpose of providing services and programs for students served in special education, Section 504, dyslexia, homebound, and/or CEHI.
- Works collaboratively with other departments to meet district goals and ensure alignment of programs and services for students.
- Directs the implementation and compliance with State and Federal legislation related to special education, Section 504, Dyslexia, homebound, and/or CEHI.
- Supervises and evaluates department personnel for the purpose of ensuring delivery of services that conform to state and federal guidelines.
- Directs and monitors federal and local special education department budgets and local dyslexia budget for the purpose of fiscal efficiency in providing required services to students.
- Coordinates special education services with private schools and other agencies.
- Directs the Medicaid Administrative Claiming process and direct billing of Medicaid eligible special education services provided by the district.
- Facilitates meetings and professional development for the purpose of implementing and maintaining district special services programming.
- Coordinates with outside agencies to provide services to students who are parentally placed private school students or who are transitioning from Early Childhood Intervention (Part C-IDEA), and for students transitioning to post-secondary settings.
- Coordinates and ensures compliance of PEIMS data and compliance reporting for all programs in department.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel.
Qualification Requirements
Minimum
Education/Certification:
- Valid Texas teaching certificate
- Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field
- Supervisory Experience
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications deemed appropriate
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
- Understanding the individual needs of students with disabilities.
- Ability to communicate with all levels of students requiring special services and their parents.
- Ability to manage budget and supervise personnel.
- Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work well with a diverse population.
- Ability to ensure the accuracy of data used in federal and state reporting for all departmental programs.
- Knowledgeable of state and federal guidelines, including IDEA, the Dyslexia state guidelines, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Minimum Experience:
- Five years of successful special education teaching experience
- Demonstrated leadership of other teachers
- Administrative/supervisory experience preferred.
