Job Title:

Preschool Teacher Exemption Status/Test:
Exempt/Professional

Primary

Purpose:

The Preschool Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children ages 3 to 5 years. This role supports the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth of each child in accordance with the Texas Minimum Standards for Child Care Centers and Greenwood Independent School District.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred.

CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

Ability to read and verbally communicate with children, staff, and parents

Ability to work with groups of children in a positive manner

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

Effective organizational and communication skills

Ability to relate to children and adults with courtesy, respect, acceptance, compassion, and patience

Experience:

Experience in an infant/childcare setting

Major

Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Support

* Assist in planning, preparing materials, and implementing daily learning activities for children

* Create and implement age-appropriate lesson plans and activities that support children's development across all learning domains.

* Maintain compliance with all Texas Child Care Licensing standards, including supervision, ratios, and safety practices.

* Establish and maintain a safe, clean, and engaging classroom environment.

* Assist in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.

* Work collaboratively with other staff to ensure smooth transitions, coverage, and program consistency

Student Management

* Supervise and ensure safety and security of children in the classroom, on outings, and to and from outside play areas.

* Foster a positive classroom culture that promotes inclusion, independence, and respectful behavior.

* Make teacher aware of special needs or problems of individual students.

* Observe and assess children's development and maintain accurate documentation for progress reports and parent-teacher conferences.

Safety

* Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing.

* Follow district safety protocols and emergency protocols.

* Maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid certifications.

Other

* Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and required training hours per licensing guidelines.

* Communicate regularly with families regarding their child's growth and daily experiences.

Tools/Equipment Used:
Standard classroom and nursery equipment such as toys, playgrounds, multiple-rider strollers, etc. Personal computer and printer.

Posture:
Moderate standing; occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping

Motion:
Moderate walking, climbing, lifting, balancing, and handing or moving materials

Lifting:
Regular light lifting and carrying

Environment:
Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise; frequent exposure to bodily fluids

Mental Demands:
Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress and self-control in the presence of children.
