EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with the appropriate teacher certification
Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university preferred
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience in Social Studies, World Geography, US Government
Deep knowledge of the subject‑area content and research‑based instructional strategies/practices
Capacity to lead content‑area teaching teams for the purpose of improving instruction and student achievement
Position Function/Purpose
Assist teachers in utilizing the best and most reliable teaching techniques; assist in providing professional development for teachers in new, remedial or accelerated instructional procedures; assist in the development and implementation of the District curriculum as it relates to the subject for which the subject specialist is responsible.
Major Responsibilities
- Maintain open and continued communication with leaders and teachers for a united approach to curriculum methods and content.
- Create professional development aligned to the TEKS, goals, and resources implemented by the district as needed.
- Assist in the strategizing, planning, evaluation, management, development, and improvement of curriculum and instructional activities and programs with the classroom teachers.
- Model expert lessons, observe classroom instruction, and follow up with coaching sessions.
- Coach teachers to use a variety of current evidence-based instructional strategies, technology, and content-specific knowledge through participation in continuous professional development.
- Facilitate vertical alignment of instructional strategies among grade levels and content.
- Guide the teams through data analysis to adjust first‑time instruction and/or to focus on re‑teaching.
- Facilitate the use of district resources to their fullest capacity: lesson planning, resource selection, assessments, data digging, and data interpretations for instructional decisions.
- Assist in conducting research studies related to the instructional program and other areas of student activities and achievement.
- Serve as a communication liaison between teachers, campus administration, and district curriculum staff so that information is disseminated in an accurate and effective way.
- Assist leaders and teachers by doing instructional walks and offering feedback for successfully implementing the MISD curriculum.
- Consult with teachers and staff on research and new approaches to teaching and learning.
- Support in the development, planning, and implementation of special and all programs at District and campus levels.
- Assist in the professional development of teachers through the sharing of best practices and observing, successful teaching techniques either within MISD or other sources.
- Provide instruction for individual students requiring special instructional needs.
- Serve as a member and resource person to the local textbook committee during the selection of textbooks being considered for adoption.
- Assist in coordinating the development and implementation of the District curriculum framework and resources to give continuity and clarity to the instructional program.
- Manage primary content and others as assigned, inventory of resources, supplies, and materials including district‑purchased equipment and kits.
- Facilitate the campus's representation at each grade level, content‑area share session and professional development and ensure information is shared with all team/department members.
- Assist in organizing and planning all summer school programs and activities conducted by the district.
- Collaborate with teams and attend all weekly planning meetings to ensure lesson and assessment development is aligned with the content scope/sequence and TEKS.
- Attend relevant school, district, and professional meetings.
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
