A substitute teacher is a temporary educator who fills in for regular classroom teachers when they are absent. The primary responsibilities of a substitute teacher include:
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a positive and orderly learning environment. Enforce school and classroom rules to ensure student behavior is conducive to learning.
  • Lesson Implementation: Follow lesson plans provided by the regular teacher or create engaging and educational activities if lesson plans are not available. Ensure the continuity of the curriculum.
  • Instruction: Deliver lessons and instructions to students, answering questions and providing support as needed. Adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles.
  • Attendance and Reporting: Take attendance and report it to the school office. Provide feedback on the day's activities and student behavior to the Substitute Coordinator.
  • Supervision: Monitor students during classroom activities, recess, lunch, and other times as required. Ensure a safe and secure environment for all students.
  • Flexibility: Be adaptable and flexible to different teaching environments, grade levels, and subjects. Substitute teachers may be assigned to various classrooms within a school.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with school staff and students. Relay important information to the regular teacher and adhere to school policies and procedures.
  • Professionalism: Demonstrate a professional attitude and appearance. Uphold the ethical and professional standards of teaching.
  • Problem Solving: Handle disciplinary issues and conflicts that may arise during the absence of the regular teacher. Use effective problem-solving skills to manage classroom challenges.
  • Emergency Procedures: Be aware of and follow emergency procedures, including evacuation plans and other safety protocols.
  • Feedback: Provide constructive feedback to the regular teacher about the day's activities, student performance, and any other relevant information.
  • It's important for substitute teachers to be versatile, patient, and capable of adapting to different classroom settings. They play a crucial role in ensuring that learning continues in the absence of the regular teacher.
