Dyslexia Teacher
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. The teacher will travel to various schools to teach the dyslexia program (currently Take Flight) to students who are identified for the district's regular education dyslexia program.
Position Function/Purpose
Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and provide written evidence of preparation as required. Serve as the campus Dyslexia Teacher at assigned campuses. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences. Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations, and follow the dyslexia program guidelines. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the student groups involved.
Cooperate with other staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with district requirements. Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials. Attend 504 and ARD Meetings as dyslexia representative.

Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned.Serve as the campus Dyslexia Teacher at assigned campuses.Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences.Present the subject matter according to T.E.A. guidelines and district regulations.Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media suitable for student groups.Cooperate with staff in planning and implementing instructional goals.Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and instructional materials.Attend 504 and ARD Meetings as dyslexia representative.Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports.Assume responsibility for duties and/or extracurricular activities as assigned.Present a positive role model supporting the mission of the school district.Assist in documenting student progress and monitoring students in the dyslexia program.Create a classroom environment conducive to learning.Establish classroom control and administer discipline in accordance with board policies.Take necessary precautions to protect students.Assist in supervising students as assigned by the Principal during school hours.Promote a positive work environment and staff morale.Participate in building a common vision for school improvement.Participate in planning and implementing activities to attain the school's mission.Provide training to campus personnel on reading issues and dyslexia.Assist in the organization and implementation of dyslexia processes and documentation.Provide training to campus staff.Assist in selecting/orienting new instructional staff.Take precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.Communicate regularly with the campus principal.Establish and maintain open communication with students and parents.Maintain professional relationships with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.Participate in the district professional development program.Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.Observe professional and ethical standards per Texas Education Agency code of ethics.Attend training in methods and strategies that improve general reading and dyslexia instruction.Stay informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.Follow district guidelines for identifying and serving students.Compile, maintain, and file all required reports, records, and documents.Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.Perform any other duties assigned or necessary for job effectiveness.Qualifications
