EXEMPT STATUS: Non-Exempt
NUMBER OF DAYS: According to district approved calendar
DEPARTMENT: Teaching and Learning
REPORTS TO: Principal and Teachers Assigned
SUPERVISES: None
Education & ExperienceEDUCATION:
- High School Diploma or GED and/or 30 semester hours of college or university credits
- Educational Aide Certificate from the State of Texas
EXPERIENCE:
- Some experience working with children
Assist the teacher in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under the supervision of a certified teacher.
Essential Functions- Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy
- Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays
- Work with individual students or small groups to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher
- Assist with the administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments
- Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom
- Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students
- Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom
- Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment
- Assist the teacher in keeping administrative records and preparing reports
- Participate in in‑service programs, faculty meetings, and special events, as needed
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers
- All other duties as assigned by the supervisor
- Possess, or be willing to apply for, a TEA Educational Aide Certificate (personal expense)
- Educational Aide certificate as established by the State Board for Educator Certification. The applicant for this certificate must:
- Hold a high‑school diploma, the equivalent, or higher
- Have satisfied one of the following requirements:
- Have three creditable years of experience as an educational aide I or II
- Have completed 30 semester credit hours of college credit with emphasis on child growth and development or related subject areas
- Have experience working with students and parents as approved by the superintendent
- Ability to work well with children
- Knowledge of general office equipment
- Standing (at least 30 minutes per period)
- Stooping
- Bending
- Light to moderate lifting 15-44 lbs.
- Moderate to heavy carrying
- Ability to see and monitor student activity
- Regular attendance required
