Job Description

POSITION: Teacher Assistant, Physical Education

EXEMPT STATUS: Non-Exempt

NUMBER OF DAYS: According to district approved calendar

DEPARTMENT: Teaching and Learning

REPORTS TO: Principal and Teachers Assigned

SUPERVISES: None

Education & Experience

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED and/or 30 semester hours of college or university credits
  • Educational Aide Certificate from the State of Texas

EXPERIENCE:

  • Some experience working with children
Position Function / Purpose

Assist the teacher in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under the supervision of a certified teacher.

Essential Functions
  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy
  • Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays
  • Work with individual students or small groups to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher
  • Assist with the administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments
  • Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom
  • Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students
  • Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom
  • Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment
  • Assist the teacher in keeping administrative records and preparing reports
  • Participate in in‑service programs, faculty meetings, and special events, as needed
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers
  • All other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Qualification Requirements
  • Possess, or be willing to apply for, a TEA Educational Aide Certificate (personal expense)
  • Educational Aide certificate as established by the State Board for Educator Certification. The applicant for this certificate must:
    • Hold a high‑school diploma, the equivalent, or higher
    • Have satisfied one of the following requirements:
      • Have three creditable years of experience as an educational aide I or II
      • Have completed 30 semester credit hours of college credit with emphasis on child growth and development or related subject areas
    • Have experience working with students and parents as approved by the superintendent
  • Ability to work well with children
  • Knowledge of general office equipment

  • Ability to see and monitor student activity
