Provides instructional assistance to students under the supervision of a certified teacher; assists in preparing, conducting, and managing classroom activities. Supports facilitation in the general education classroom to support IEP implementation.
Essential Functions- Follow the directions of the supervisor.
- Prepare materials and displays as directed.
- Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
- Demonstrate acceptable written and verbal skills.
- Work in a cooperative manner with both teacher and students.
- Assist the teacher in maintaining student discipline.
- Assist the teacher in assuming responsibility for the care and safety of students.
- Assist the teacher in assuming responsibility for the care of equipment and teaching materials.
- Work with individual students or small groups to conduct instructional exercises assigned by teacher.
- Inform the teacher of any special needs or problems of individual students.
- Change diapers for students.
- Toilet students.
- Feed or assist with feeding students.
- Assist with lifting students.
- Assist students with other self-help skills.
- Blend foods.
- Cook foods.
- Assist with loading and unloading students.
- All other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- May be reassigned during the year because of student population shifts.
- Possess or be willing to apply for a TEA Educational Aide Certificate (personal expense).
- Hold a high school diploma or GED and/or 30 semester hours of an accredited college or university.
- Hold an Educational Aide Certificate from the state of Texas.
- Have satisfied one of the following: three creditable years of experience as an educational aide I or II, completed 30 semester credit hours of college credit with emphasis on child growth and development or related subject areas, or experience working with students and parents as approved by the superintendent.
- Good people skills.
- Ability to work well with children and all students.
Regularly required to sit; stand; move throughout the room and/or facility; communicate verbally and electronically; use hands; reach; kneel, stoop, crouch, and/or crawl; and climb or balance. Regularly required to lift or exert force of up to 25 pounds. Regular attendance required.
