Job Description

POSITION: Teacher Assistant, Bilingual

EXEMPT STATUS: Non-Exempt

NUMBER OF DAYS: According to district approved calendar

DEPARTMENT: Teaching and Learning

REPORTS TO: Principal and Teachers Assigned

SUPERVISES: None

Essential Functions
  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.
  • Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Work with individual students or small groups to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
  • Assist with the administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  • Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Assist the teacher in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.
  • Participate in in-service training programs, faculty meetings, and special events, as needed.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Demonstrate acceptable written and verbal skills.
  • All other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Qualifications

    Education:

    • High School Diploma or GED and/or 30 semester hours of an accredited college or university
    • Educational Aide Certificate from state of Texas

    Experience:

    • Some experience working with children

    Qualification Requirements:

    • Possess, or be willing to apply for, a TEA Educational Aide Certificate (personal expense)
    • Educational Aide certificate as established by the State Board for Educator Certification; applicant must hold a high school diploma or higher, satisfy creditable years of experience or college credit requirements, and have experience working with students and parents as approved by the superintendent.
