Reports To: Campus Principal / Director of Bilingual/ESL

Position PurposeTo be responsible for teaching the ESL/ELA Component of the Bilingual Transitional Late‑Exit Program Model grades K–6th and provide explicit ESL instruction to ESL students. In addition, they will develop English language proficiency, academic language development, and high academic achievement.
Essential Functions- Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, MISD school board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of ELLs.
- Cooperate with members of the Bilingual/ESL Department in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with federal, state and district requirements for ELLs.
- Provide explicit, systematic instruction supported by advanced‑progress monitoring technology to match ELLs with appropriate materials, monitor progress, and use data effectively to make instructional decisions.
- Employ the use of technologies in the teaching/learning process (including software).
- Assist teachers in selection, analyzing, and improving methods of instruction for ELLs.
- Analyze student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports as required.
- Present a positive role model supporting the school district mission.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude toward learning and communicate high expectations of all students to campus personnel.
- Provide students with necessary support to implement effective instructional strategies.
- Assist in disaggregating data to improve instruction.
- Implement intervention strategies and differentiate instruction to meet student needs.
- Interact and communicate with parents effectively.
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate second‑language acquisition with quality content‑area instruction to ensure that ELLs acquire social and academic language proficiency in English.
- Participate in the district professional development program.
- Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
- Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency code of ethics.
- Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for teachers.
- Assume responsibility for compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records, and other documents required.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned or as may be necessary for job effectiveness.
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Certification: Valid teaching certificate and Bilingual/ESL certification.
Experience: 3–5 years successful teaching experience working with ELLs.
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
- Knowledge of ESL methodologies and bilingual transferability of skills from native language to English.
- Knowledge of effective teaching techniques.
- General knowledge of working well with a diverse population.
- Knowledge of English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS).
- Knowledge of identifying ELLs English language proficiency levels in listening, speaking, reading, and writing according to TELPAS descriptors.
Mental demands:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Physical demands:
Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and moving small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
