Teacher Assistant, Pre-Kindergarten
Position Function/
Purpose:
To assist the classroom teacher in the care and instruction of the students in the classroom.
Essential Functions:
- Follow the directions of the supervisor
- Preparing materials and displays as directed
- Demonstrating acceptable written and verbal skills
- Conducting small group and large group activities
- Working in a cooperative manner with both teacher and students
- Assisting the teacher in maintaining student discipline
- Assisting the teacher in assuming responsibility for the care and safety of students
- Assisting the teacher in assuming responsibility for the care of equipment and teaching materials
- Changing diapers and assisting with restroom needs
- Toileting students
- Feeding or assisting with feeding students as needed
- Assisting with lifting students
- Assisting students with other self-help skills
- All other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Qualification Requirements:
- Minimum Certification/
Education: - Possess, or be willing to apply for, a TEA Educational Aide Certificate (personal expense)
- Educational Aide certificate as established by the State Board for Educator Certification.
- Special Knowledge/
Skills: - Good people skills
- The ability to attend professional development trainings as required by the district
- Ability to work well with all students
- Ability to work well with children
Physical Demands:
- Standing
- Walking
- Bending
- Use of fingers
- Lifting (45 lbs. or over)
- Regular attendance required
Equipment used:
Copier, Audio visual equipment, Laminator, Telephone, In some cases: wheel chairs, lifts, crutches, blender, stove and medical equipment
Work Environment:
- Indoors and Outdoors
- Works around machinery with moving parts
- Classroom environment
