Education:

• High School Diploma or GED and/or 30 semester hours of an accredited college or university
• Educational Aide Certificate from state of Texas

Experience:

• Some experience working with special education children

Position Function/

Purpose:

To assist the classroom teacher in the care and instruction of the students in the classroom.

Note:

A teacher assistant in special education is subject to reassignment during the year because of student population shifts.

Qualification Requirements:

Possess, or be willing to apply for, a TEA Educational Aide Certificate (personal expense)
Educational Aide certificate as established by the State Board for Educator Certification. The applicant for the educational aide certificate shall:

• Hold a high school diploma, the equivalent of a high school diploma, or higher;
• Have satisfied one of the following requirements:
• Has three creditable years of experience, as defined in Chapter 153, Subchapter CC, of this title (relating to Commissioner's Rules on Creditable Years of Service), as either an educational aide I or II;
• Has completed 30 semester credit hours of college credit with some emphasis on child growth and development or related subject areas;
• And have experience working with students and parents as approved by the employing superintendent.
