AVID Teacher and Coordinator
Exempt position with 187 days and Teacher Pay grade under the Academics division, Learning, Leading, and Innovation department.
The role involves working with the Principal, Site Team, Students, and Staff to strengthen core instruction at San Jacinto MS, enhancing college and career readiness for all students.
Major responsibilities include:
- AVID Site Coordinator responsible for ensuring all AVID essentials are met for annual certification.
- Acting as an AVID liaison with the principal, counselor, and other staff members as well as with AVID District Director.
- Co-leading the building AVID site team in facilitating monthly meetings focusing on instructional elements of AVID.
- Teaching AVID methodologies and strategies in the classroom and using the AVID curriculum to instruct students in writing, inquiry collaboration, and reading.
- Becoming an instructional leader, sharing techniques and materials through professional development to help staff members work with all learners.
- Assisting teachers in implementing AVID strategies in their classrooms.
- Meeting monthly with AVID Site Coordinators to collaborate on K-12 AVID alignment and plan district-wide AVID professional development.
- Facilitating the planning and scheduling of college field trips, guest speakers, and special programs with other teachers.
- Facilitating campus AVID parent involvement activities.
- AVID data collection as relates to school-wide implementation.
- Supporting recruitment of new AVID learners.
- Supporting organization and maintenance of AVID certification materials.
- Attending scheduled meetings with the District Director.
- Attending AVID trainings as directed by the principal or AVID District Director.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualification requirements include:

- Understanding how the school system works to get what is needed for the program and the learners.
- Gaining the respect of and collaborating with school faculty and parents.
- Working well with and training tutors, especially in the concept of tutorial groups.
- Bachelor's degree, Valid Texas teaching certificate preferred, minimum of 3 years of teacher experience and 1 year on AVID site team preferred.
Physical demands include sitting, standing, moving throughout the room and/or facility, communicating verbally and electronically, using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reaching with hands and arms, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing or balancing, and lifting or exerting force of up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Regular attendance required.
Work environment includes moderate noise levels, maintaining emotional control under stress, occasionally traveling to facilities within the district, and may be required to work after school and weekends.
