Education Reach for Texans is a 501© (3) organization that seeks to eliminate barriers to educational and career success by helping build and support programs for students with lived experience in the foster care system attending public colleges and universities in the state of Texas.

Responsibilities
  • Be available to consistently work approximately 15-hours per week (up to 60-hours/month).
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow through on assigned tasks and work independently.
  • Help plan, implement, and execute a robust and diverse variety of appropriate activities for the foster care population.
  • Provide outreach and engagement to students at MIDLAND COLLEGE identified as having lived experience in the foster care system.
  • Initiate contact with prospective students with the MC recruitment team.
  • Travel to and participate in recruitment efforts such as tabling and act as a representative for the Foster Care student population.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of foster care benefits and resources for prospective students.
  • Practice utilization of a peer coaching model being piloted for the project (training will be provided):
  • Offer one-on-one support to peers by listening to their concerns, sharing experiences, and offering advice and encouragement.
  • Direct peers to available resources (e.g., academic help, mental health services, career advice) that can support their development.
  • Applicants should be familiar with campus processes at MIDLAND COLLEGE.
  • Assist in the assessment of student needs and eligibility for other services and benefits and connect students to resources as appropriate with the support of the institution’s higher education foster care liaison.
  • Attend all in-person and online training and professional development.
  • Maintain a simple budget.
  • Attend all scheduled meetings.
  • Promote student engagement and participation in campus programs and events.
  • Make referrals to student services and assist with academic skill development.
  • Design presentations, flyers, brochures, and discussion topics.
  • Assist with workshops, presentations, outreach activities, and program events.
  • Track student interactions and required documentation.
  • Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Complete administrative tasks assigned by the supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High School or GED equivalent degree.
  • Must be enrolled in 6 hours (2 classes).
  • Must have lived experience in the foster care system.
  • Must have or maintain a 2.3 GPA or higher.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of campus resources and processes.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Self‑motivated with strong academic and personal management skills.
  • Personable with a cheerful outlook and caring approach toward students.
  • Attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong commitment to teamwork and student support.
  • Basic knowledge of computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver License, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College’s insurance policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Has 15 or more credit hours taken.
  • Has had previous work experience.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • The ability to observe details at a close range.
  • Occasionally moves boxes or equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move or drive to other locations on and off campus.
