Job Description

POSITION: Teacher – Exempt

No. of Days: District approved calendar

Department: District Wide / Assigned Campus

Reports To: Principal

Supervises: As assigned

Essential Functions
  • Instructional Management – Develop and implement curriculum plans; prepare lessons accommodating individual student differences; present subject matter per Texas Education Agency guidelines; employ varied instructional techniques and media; collaborate with staff on instructional goals; supervise teacher assistants; utilize technology; assist in selecting instructional materials; support students in improving study habits.
  • Student Growth and Development – Assess student accomplishments and provide progress reports; take responsibility for duties and extracurricular activities; serve as a positive role model.
  • School/Organization Climate – Create a conducive classroom environment; maintain discipline according to board policies; protect students and prevent hazards; supervise students as assigned; promote positive staff morale.
  • School/Organization Improvement – Participate in building a common vision for improvement; plan and implement activities to attain school mission; assist in orienting new staff.
  • Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management – Protect equipment and facilities.
  • School/Community Relations – Maintain open communication with students, parents, colleagues, and community; provide clear communication.
  • Professional Growth and Development – Participate in district professional development; pursue professional improvement.
  • Policy Implementation – Stay informed of regulations; file required reports; attend faculty meetings; serve on committees.
  • Other Duties – Perform duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications
    • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; valid Texas teaching certificate.
    • Experience: Student teaching, approved internship, or alternative teacher certification program.
    • Qualification Requirements: Eligible for probationary certificate via TEA approved program; knowledge of subjects assigned; general knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
    • Citizenship/Residency: Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
    Physical Demands

    Regularly required to sit, stand, move throughout the room, communicate verbally and electronically, use hands to handle objects, reach, kneel, stoop, crouch, and lift up to 25 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color vision and ability to adjust focus.

    Work Environment

    Working environment moderate noise level; requires emotional control under stress; may require occasional travel within district and work after school or on weekends.
