Reports To: Principal, Supervising Teacher, Special Services Supervisor
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED and/or 30 semester hours of an accredited college or university
- Educational Aide Certificate from the state of Texas
Experience: Some experience working with special education children
Position Function / PurposeTo assist the classroom teacher in the care and instruction of the students in the classroom.
Essential FunctionsNOTE: A teacher assistant in special education is subject to reassignment during the year because of student population shifts.
Qualification Requirements- Possess, or be willing to apply for, a TEA Educational Aide Certificate (personal expense)
- Meet the Educational Aide Certificate criteria as established by the State Board for Educator Certification:
- Hold a high school diploma, the equivalent of a high school diploma, or higher
- Satisfy one of the following:
- a. Three creditable years of experience defined in Chapter 153, Subchapter CC, as an educational aide I or II
- or b. Complete 30 semester credit hours of college credit with emphasis on child growth and development or a related subject area
- Have experience working with students and parents approved by the employing superintendent
- Good people skills
- Ability to work well with children
- Ability to work well with all students
