Position Summary

Teacher Assistant in the ESL Department working under supervision of a certified teacher, providing assistance in classroom preparation, student instruction, and administrative duties.

Essential Functions

Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state/local board policies.

Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.

Work with individual students or small groups to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.

Assist with the administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.

Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom.

Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.

Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.

Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.

Assist the teacher in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.

Participate in in-service training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as needed.

Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.

Demonstrate acceptable written and verbal skills.

Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and/or 48 semester hours of an accredited college or university.
Educational Aide Certificate from the state of Texas.
Some experience working with children.
Willingness to apply for a TEA Paraprofessional Certificate (personal expense).
Ability to work well with children.
Knowledge of general office equipment.
Bilingual capabilities.

Regular attendance required.

Audiovisual equipment.

Work Environment

Normal classroom environment. This description includes general nature and level of work performed. The minimum level of education noted as a requirement can be supplemented by commensurate experience and/or certification(s) as determined by the hiring manager.
