Position:
Teacher Assistant, Pre‑Kindergarten.
Position Function/Purpose
To assist the classroom teacher in the care and instruction of the students in the classroom.
Essential Functions- Follow the directions of the supervisor
- Preparing materials and displays as directed
- Demonstrating acceptable written and verbal skills
- Conducting small group and large group activities
- Working in a cooperative manner with both teacher and students
- Assisting the teacher in maintaining student discipline
- Assisting the teacher in assuming responsibility for the care and safety of students
- Assisting the teacher in assuming responsibility for the care of equipment and teaching materials
- Changing diapers and assisting with restroom needs
- Toileting students
- Feeding or assisting with feeding students as needed
- Assisting with lifting students
- Assisting students with other self‑help skills
- All other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Minimum Certification / Education
- Possess, or be willing to apply for, a TEA Educational Aide Certificate (personal expense).
- Hold a high school diploma, equivalent, or higher.
- Have satisfied one of the following:
- Three creditable years of experience as an educational aide I or II, or
- Completed 30 semester credit hours of college credit with some emphasis on child growth and development or related subjects.
- Have experience working with students and parents as approved by the employing superintendent.
