JOB SUMMARY

ESL Instructor will work in a classroom setting teaching adults the skills needed to speak, read and write English at Cogdell Learning Center. Instructors will work in a classroom setting instructing students who are seeking ESL services through Midland College’s Adult Basic Education Program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Instruct students who have achieved varying levels of mastery in the subject matter area
  • Teach students online, face-to-face, or a combination of the two modalities on a schedule as assigned by the ESL Coordinator
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately with students
  • Integrate essential workplace competencies into the classroom setting
  • Report and interpret test results for individual students
  • Develop and promote a safe learning environment for all students
  • Provide tutoring and additional instructional support to students as necessary
  • Attend required staff meetings
  • Complete the required 15 clock hours of professional development as assigned through the state training portal by the program’s Professional Development Coordinator
  • Participate in student registration and orientation functions as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • An earned Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • General familiarity with computers, Word, and Excel programs
  • Ability to communicate professionally with internal and external groups
  • Willingness to participate in collaborative projects with colleagues and instructional leaders
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in teaching adult students or high school students
  • Experience with curriculum design, curriculum implementation, and assessment of student progress
  • Experience working in a correctional facility
