Position Title: Special Education Teacher:
High School Supplemental Learning Support - 1 year assignment

Reports To: Building Principal

The Special Education Teacher for the High School Supplemental Learning Support classroom is responsible for delivering targeted academic instruction, functional life skill development, and post-secondary transition planning for students with diverse learning needs. The teacher will design and implement individualized programs aligned to each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP), foster self-advocacy and academic independence, and collaborate with general education staff, families, and community partners to prepare students for college, career, and independent living.

• Develop, implement, and monitor compliant IEPs, emphasizing measurable post-secondary transition goals and independent living skills.
• Provide direct supplemental instruction in core academic areas, self-advocacy, and executive functioning, balancing modified coursework with access to general education standards.
• Collect and analyze curriculum-based and transition data to inform instructional decisions and evaluate progress toward IEP goals.
• Collaborate with general education teachers, career and technical education (CTE) staff, paraprofessionals, and related service providers to facilitate course accommodations and inclusive opportunities.
• Adapt high school curricula, instructional materials, and assistive technology to support diverse learning profiles and vocational goals.
• Establish and maintain a structured, age-appropriate classroom environment that promotes self-regulation, goal setting, and respectful peer interactions.
• Implement positive behavior support plans (PBSPs) and evidence-based interventions tailored for adolescents.
• Facilitate and lead IEP meetings, transition planning sessions, parent conferences, and multi-agency coordination.
• Maintain rigorous documentation for state, federal, and district compliance, including transition documentation and graduation pathways.

• Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or related field.
• Active Pennsylvania certification in Special Education (7–12 or PK–12 comparable).
• Experience working with high school students, secondary transition planning, or youth with learning and behavioral needs preferred.
• Knowledge of adolescent development, secondary instructional best practices, transition mandates, and graduation pathway options for students with disabilities.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a secondary multidisciplinary team and external support agencies.

• Ability to meet the physical demands of a high school environment, including navigating a multi-story facility and supervising dynamic learning settings.
• Ability to implement de-escalation and crisis intervention strategies as trained through the district-approved safety program.
• Ability to lift, move, or assist with adaptive equipment, vocational tools, or physical supports as needed.
