Overview

The Compressor Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of natural gas compression equipment supporting gas lift and gas gathering systems. This position ensures optimal compressor performance and production uptime while adhering to all safety and environmental standards.

Responsibilities
  • Operate, monitor, and maintain gas compressors used in gas lift and gas gathering operations.
  • Perform daily inspections, start-ups, and shutdowns of compressor units.
  • Record operating parameters such as suction/discharge pressures, temperatures, and flow rates.
  • Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on engines, compressors, and auxiliary systems.
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams to schedule major repairs and overhauls.
  • Adjust operating parameters to optimize gas lift efficiency and minimize downtime.
  • Monitor engine oil levels, coolant, vibration, and emissions to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain accurate logs and daily production/compression reports.
  • Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space, and other site safety procedures.
  • Communicate any operational issues or potential failures to supervisors and maintenance personnel promptly.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience operating and maintaining gas compressors in oil and gas production or midstream environments.
  • Working knowledge of gas lift operations, compression principles, and associated process equipment.
  • Experience with Caterpillar, Ariel, Waukesha, or equivalent compressor engines preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, compressor curves, and equipment manuals.
  • Strong troubleshooting and mechanical aptitude.
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems, operational logs, and reporting tools.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to field locations.
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training or certification preferred.
  • Must meet conditional job offer requirements including background check, drug test, MVR, and fit for duty/agility test.
