Natural Gas Turbine / Gen Set Field Technician (Contract-to-Hire)
Lucent Power Advisory is expanding its next-generation power infrastructure team and is seeking a highly skilled Natural Gas Turbine / Generator Field Technician to support the deployment, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of large-scale natural gas power generation systems.
As AI data centers, digital infrastructure, and industrial facilities demand faster access to reliable power, Lucent Power Advisory is developing innovative turnkey power solutions utilizing advanced natural gas generation, generator management systems (GMS), automation, and intelligent energy controls.
We are looking for a hands‑on technician who understands engines, electrical systems, controls, and field troubleshooting — someone capable of supporting mission‑critical power systems where reliability and uptime are essential.
Position ResponsibilitiesThe selected candidate will be responsible for:
- Performing installation support, startup, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of industrial natural gas generator systems.
- Supporting field deployment of multi‑megawatt power generation assets including 1.5 MW, 2 MW, 3 MW+ natural gas generators.
- Mechanical inspection
- Electrical verification
- Engine startup
- Control system validation
- Load testing
- Performance verification
- Diagnosing and repairing issues related to:
- Ignition systems
- Cooling systems
- Lubrication systems
- Sensors and instrumentation
- Reading and interpreting:
- P&IDs
- Control drawings
- OEM manuals
- Troubleshooting engine controllers, generator protection systems, PLC interfaces, and monitoring platforms.
- Supporting multi‑generator plant operations including:
- Generator paralleling
- Load sharing
- Frequency control
- Voltage regulation
- Working closely with engineering teams to perform root‑cause analysis, optimize equipment performance, and improve system reliability.
- 3–7+ years of field experience with industrial generators, natural gas engines, power plants, or similar equipment.
- Strong hands‑on troubleshooting experience with OEM platforms including:
Cummins, MTU. - Experience working on large natural gas generator packages: 1.5 MW+, 2 MW+, Multi‑generator power plants.
- Strong understanding of:
Generator electrical systems, Preventive and corrective maintenance. - Ability to troubleshoot:
Engine ECU faults, Fuel system issues, Control communication problems, Frequency/voltage instability.
- Jenbacher DIA.NE systems.
- Ethernet networks.
- MV/LV power distribution.
- Experience supporting continuous power applications such as Oil & gas operations.
- Understanding of power quality, uptime requirements, and mission‑critical environments.
- Experience performing commissioning documentation, field reports, and equipment performance tracking.
- A strong field problem solver.
- Mechanically and electrically skilled.
- Comfortable working independently.
- Passionate about power generation technology.
- Interested in helping build the future of AI energy infrastructure.
- Must be available to work onsite in Midland, Texas.
- Ability to travel when required.
- OSHA, OEM, or electrical certifications preferred.
