Blackbeard Operating, LLC is seeking a Surface Landman responsible for negotiating, securing, and managing surface rights and agreements in relation to Blackbeard’s operating areas. The candidate will work closely with Legal, Operations, HSE, and Regulatory teams to ensure surface access is obtained and maintained in compliance with contractual and company requirements. The position is critical in supporting drilling, completion, production, and midstream operations and ensuring company objectives and goals are met.
The candidate will report to the Land Manager, and the position will be located in Midland, Texas.
- Manage surface activities and coordinate surface access for drilling, completions, production, pipelines, power, water, and other infrastructure. Provide recommendations regarding agreements and surface contracts.
- Negotiate, draft, and provide advice on various land agreements including surface use agreements, right‑of‑way agreements, easements, access agreements and damage settlements
- Work closely with the Operations team including Asset Engineer, Field Staff, Infrastructure Team, and Management to ensure company goals, objectives, and project timelines are reached
- Monitor compliance with agreement terms to ensure contractual obligations are met
- Serve as primary point of contact with landowners, regarding surface related issues, concerns and to settle surface damages
- Provide field support as needed, including site visits and in‑person landowner meetings
- Maintain accurate land and surface records in company systems
- Bachelor’s degree in Land Management, Energy Management, Business, or related field
- +3 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry as a Landman or related role
- Strong understanding and background of fundamental Land principles in Texas
- Possess strong problem‑solving, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills, maintain high character, and acute attention to detail
- High-Level proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Texas Railroad Commission, Enverus, Landworks, and P2 Excalibur
- The ability to handle multiple and competing priorities, a self‑starter requiring minimal supervision
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multi‑disciplinary team
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
