Kinetik is strategically located in the heart of the Delaware Basin in the Permian, one of the fastest growing areas for oil and gas development in the world. We provide the gathering, compression, processing, transportation and water management services required to bring natural gas, natural gas liquids and crude oil to market and are dedicated to providing the best service and netback for our customers.
We are driven to be best-in-class and committed to growing our existing assets in the Permian Basin through both greenfield and acquisition opportunities.
Kinetik employees have decades of experience in West Texas and provide all the important services our customers need to deliver gas and crude oil production to market, which include gathering, transportation, compression, processing and produced water management.
Summary of the role:We are seeking a highly skilled engineer with specialized experience in saltwater disposal (SWD) wells, acid gasinjection (AGI) wells, and underground storage–related well operations. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise in well design, construction oversight, maintenance and workovers, regulatory compliance, and subsurfacegeologic interpretation, as well as a solid understanding of injection-related seismicity in the Permian Basin. This role will support full-cycle injection well engineering, providing technical leadership across design, permitting, drilling, completion, workover, and long-term performance optimization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Injection Well Engineering & Design
- Design SWD and AGI wells including casing, tubing, packer systems, cementing programs, and corrosion mitigation.
- Perform injection modeling, injectivity analysis, pressure evaluation, and containment assessment.
- Develop drilling, completion, and construction specifications and support field execution.
- Apply engineering standards consistent with industry practices observed in underground storage and injection well operations.
- Lead mechanical integrity test (MIT) planning and execution.
- Develop workover procedures for injection wells, perform diagnostics, troubleshoot flow and pressure anomalies.
- Oversee remedial cementing, tubing repairs, packer replacement, and injection system optimization.
- Support well maintenance functions commonly required in storage and injection facilities.
- Ensure compliance with Texas Railroad Commission (RRC), EPA UIC Class II program, and other regulatory bodies.
- Prepare and file permit applications, completion forms, MIT documentation, pressure reports, and compliance filings.
- Maintain expert knowledge of statewide injection/disposal regulations.
- Collaborate with geologists to evaluate injection intervals, reservoir quality, containment risk, fracture gradients, and pressure‑front movement.
- Interpret logs, map structural and strati graphic trends, and integrate geomechanical considerations into well design.
- Monitor seismicity trends in the Permian Basin associated with injection activity.
- Implement pressure management strategies, depth adjustments, rate reductions, and operational changes based on seismic response area (SRA) directives.
- Support seismic risk analysis to ensure safe, compliant injection operations.
- Work closely with Operations, HSE, Regulatory, and Subsurface Teams.
- Provide engineering leadership during field operations, project planning, failure analysis, and equipment specification.
- Support budgeting, cost forecasting, and project controls.
- All other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- PE license preferred but not required.
- 10+ years of relevant experience in:
- SWD and AGI well design and operations
- Injection well drilling, completions, and workovers
- Mechanical integrity testing and regulatory reporting
- Geologic and reservoir interpretation
- Seismicity‑sensitive operational practices in the Permian Basin
