Job Description:
Under general supervision, the Field Service Representative (Mud Engineer) delivers wellsite support to customers by applying knowledge gained through formal training in fluids chemistry, volume and hydraulics calculations, routine and advanced testing, separation equipment theory, and overall wellsite service execution. The role involves close collaboration with fluids supervisors, equipment supervisors, and other technical professionals at the wellsite. The engineer must exhibit an advanced understanding of company products and services, rig operations, and fluids, separation, and waste management technologies and processes.
Representing the company professionally, the engineer will maintain strong working relationships with operator representatives and rig personnel.
- Perform and analyze routine and specialized testing to develop and recommend technical solutions.
- Operate select separation and waste management equipment and understand their impact on overall fluid performance.
- Prepare, monitor, and manage inventory of bulk and palletized products, as well as equipment spares, in alignment with the drilling program and expected conditions.
- Operate, maintain, and optimize testing, separation, and waste management equipment.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and support the training and development of junior team members.
- Strong exposure to both water-based and oil-based fluid systems.
- Experience with high-performance fluid systems, including high-performance water-based muds, oil-based muds (including Shell “light pink” systems), brine-based systems, conventional water-based basin muds, and polymer and non-polymer water-based systems.
- Broad, adaptable fluids experience to transition between systems based on well design and basin requirements.
- Familiarity with Permian Basin fluid programs.
Skills & Qualifications
- Completion of an industry-recognized Mud School program.
- 2–4 years of experience with drilling fluids and separation equipment.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM or a related field preferred.
- Willingness and ability to work in remote locations for extended periods of time.
This role involves on-site work with shifts lasting 17‑24 hours, followed by two weeks on and two weeks off. The position offers contract opportunities with a high possibility of extension based on performance and other factors, with assignments available in multiple locations.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Midland, TX.
Pay And BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
