Job Summary

The Environmental Professional III (EP III) serves as a senior‑level technical leader responsible for setting direction and ensuring consistent execution of environmental compliance across ONEOK’s Natural Gas Pipeline (NGP) segment. The role involves regulatory engagement end‑to‑end, independently leading audits and corrective action closure, and applying expert judgment to compliance issues while protecting business outcomes and regulatory credibility.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Provide mentoring to entry‑level employees on compliance system management, assisting with compliance requirements and organizational procedures and tools.
  • Develop tools and templates to manage environmental compliance and remediation information, enhancing compliance and company performance.
  • Manage field inspections for operating assets and construction projects.
  • Provide senior‑level knowledge of compliance requirements and operational parameters to answer questions regarding applicability and compliance.
  • Enhance existing compliance programs based on audit results.
  • Lead internal audits of facilities within and outside areas of responsibility.
  • Represent the company in the evaluation and implementation of emerging regulatory issues through industry associations or regulatory guidelines.
  • Recognize and resolve regulatory applicability issues and identify compliance requirements and tasks.
  • Apply risk‑based analysis of compliance related to operations or construction practices.
  • Provide support to less experienced professionals to resolve complex applicability or requirement questions.
  • Manage all environmental programs and their application within complex operating assets or construction projects.
  • Develop new procedures and tools to facilitate and demonstrate compliance.
  • Review environmental inspection reports and resolve potential compliance issues.
  • Negotiate with contract and consultant resources to ensure appropriate service levels and competitive rates.
  • Evaluate contractor and consultant performance and recommend continued use.
  • Manage the permit process from start to finish for all media, including applications for new construction and operating assets.
  • Ensure quality and accuracy of practical permit conditions based on compliance risk assessment.
  • Manage multiple compliance systems across complex operating sites and projects.
  • Contribute to system enhancements to improve compliance performance.
  • Train new users on compliance systems and procedures and participate in the development and implementation of new compliance systems.
  • Manage and participate in agency inspections and represent the company in negotiations on compliance or enforcement issues.
  • Effectively represent the company’s operating parameters and construction practices and the applicability of environmental regulations, providing rationale for compliance positions.
  • Coordinate and facilitate environmental project permitting prior to, during, and after construction for maintenance, growth, and large capital projects.
  • Collect and review environmental field samples (air, water, and waste) for analysis.
Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in environmental, natural science, or engineering preferably; or a combination of formal education and 6‑10 years of related experience in environmental compliance.

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations and standards and their applicability to operations.
  • Ability to analyze, research, compile, and prepare permit applications, logs, reports, and corresponding company responses to agency requests.
  • Ability to evaluate, research, and interpret governmental regulations, equipment performance manuals, regulatory agency guidance, and company policies.
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Application of math, algebraic formulas, and statistics.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including presentation of training materials.
  • Proficiency in technical writing and communication.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and other job‑related software.
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment.
