ATTORNEY I JOB DESCRIPTION

Reports To: Attorney II / Of Counsel / Shareholder
FLSA Status: Exempt
Work Type: Full-Time
An established and respected Midland-based practice serving individuals and businesses across West Texas. We combine trial-ready advocacy with practical, business-minded counsel across complex civil disputes, oil & gas matters, probate and fiduciary litigation, small-business disputes, and select criminal defense.
Position SummaryAttorney I is an early-to-mid level attorney responsible for handling routine matters and supporting complex matters under supervision. This role is expected to develop independence in drafting, research, and client communication while meeting billable requirements and contributing to business development.
Minimum Qualifications- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited university
- Active law license in the firm’s practicing jurisdiction(s), in good standing
- 2–7 years of legal experience
- Strong writing skills and ability to follow established workflows
- Annual Billable Hours Target: 1,200
- Origination Target: $75,000+
- Business Development Target: 5–8%
- Handle routine matters with growing independence
- Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, correspondence, and agreements
- Perform legal research and provide clear summaries and analysis
- Support Attorney II, Of Counsel, and Shareholders on complex matters
- Participate in client communications as appropriate to experience level
- Maintain case documentation, deadline tracking, and file organization
- Build a professional network and referral relationships
- Participate in bar associations, industry groups, and local business events
- Develop long-term business development habits and consistency
- No direct supervisory responsibilities
- Receives coaching and feedback from senior attorneys

- On-site in Midland, TX with regular court appearances in regional venues.
- Reasonable travel within Texas for hearings, depositions, and trials.
