Placed by Occu Pros Workplace Safety Services

About the Company

Our client is one of the most established and respected service contractors in the Permian Basin, serving West Texas since 1949. With 75+ years in business, 80+ employees, and multiple locations, this company delivers residential and commercial plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and full-scale mechanical contracting services. They have earned a reputation for quality workmanship, long-term customer relationships, and doing things the right way.

This is a stable, growing organization in one of the most active energy markets in the country.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a seasoned EHS Director to build, lead, and own their environmental, health, and safety program. This is a leadership position reporting directly to the company President. You will be the single point of accountability for safety culture, regulatory compliance, training, and risk management across all operations including residential service, commercial service, mechanical contracting, and fleet operations.

This is not a clipboard-and-checklist role. They need someone who can transform safety from a set of rules into a way of operating, someone who earns the respect of field technicians and leadership alike.

What You Will Do
  • Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive EHS program across all divisions (plumbing, HVAC, electrical, mechanical contracting)
  • Serve as the company's primary liaison with OSHA, EPA, TCEQ, and all applicable regulatory agencies
  • Conduct regular jobsite inspections, audits, and risk assessments across residential, commercial, and mechanical contracting operations
  • Lead incident investigations using root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Design and deliver safety training programs including OSHA compliance, confined space, electrical safety, fall protection, fleet safety, and hazard communication
  • Develop and maintain written safety programs, JSAs/JHAs, SOPs, and emergency action plans
  • Manage workers' compensation claims, experience modification rates, and injury/illness recordkeeping (OSHA 300 logs)
  • Build a safety culture that engages field crews, service technicians, and office staff at every level
  • Oversee fleet safety program including DOT compliance, vehicle inspections, and driver safety
  • Track and report leading and lagging safety indicators to the executive team
  • Manage relationships with insurance carriers, third-party auditors, and safety vendors
  • Ensure compliance with EPA, TCEQ, and local environmental regulations including refrigerant management and waste disposal
What We Are Looking For
  • Experience: 7+ years in EHS leadership, preferably in mechanical contracting, construction, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or multi-trade service environments
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field preferred
  • Certifications (preferred): CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, or equivalent professional safety credential
  • OSHA Knowledge: Deep working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 (Construction) and 29 CFR 1910 (General Industry)
  • Technical

    Skills:

Proficiency in incident investigation, root cause analysis, JHA/JSA development, and safety management systems
  • Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with field crews, technicians, and C-suite leadership
  • Bilingual: Spanish language proficiency strongly preferred given workforce demographics
  • Leadership: Proven ability to influence safety culture and drive behavioral change without relying solely on enforcement
  • Boots on the Ground: Willingness to be in the field daily, not behind a desk
Why This Opportunity
  • 75+ year legacy of excellence in the Permian Basin with a rock-solid reputation
  • Direct report to the President with full ownership of the EHS function
  • Opportunity to build a safety program from the ground up and make it your own
  • Stable, growing company in one of the most active energy markets in the country
  • A team that values doing things right, taking care of people, and serving the community
