Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) to join our surgical team. This role involves providing comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing a variety of surgical procedures. The OR RN will work in a fast‑paced environment, collaborating with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The ideal candidate will have experience in a wide range of surgical specialties, including General, Orthopedic, Neuro, Trauma, and ENT.
The OR RN will be responsible for preparing the operating room, assisting with surgical procedures, monitoring patients during surgery, and ensuring a safe and sterile environment. The patient population includes adolescents, infants, adults, pediatrics, and geriatrics. The OR RN will be working in a 13‑room operating suite with a daily census of 35–40 patients. The schedule will vary each week, and flexibility is required.
The OR RN will also participate in a call rotation.
- Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures, ensuring all equipment and supplies are available and functioning correctly.
- Assist surgeons during surgical procedures, anticipating their needs and providing necessary instruments and supplies.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs and overall condition during surgery, reporting any changes or concerns to the surgical team.
- Maintain a sterile environment in the operating room, adhering to strict infection control protocols.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the physician.
- Document patient care accurately and completely in the electronic health record.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
- Provide education and support to patients and their families.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and outcomes.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as an OR Registered Nurse.
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of assignment.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Pediatric experience.
- Cerner charting system experience.
