Job Description
The Lab Manager is responsible for overseeing operations of the Chemistry lab in Midland, TX and supporting field operations through laboratory testing, technical guidance, and training. This role manages laboratory activities, maintains lab and field supply inventories, and supports research and development initiatives. The Lab Manager ensures laboratory operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards while providing technical support and training to field personnel on proper laboratory practices.
Responsibilities- Oversee daily operations and activities of the assigned laboratory
- Train field personnel on laboratory procedures, testing standards, and best practices
- Manage laboratory and field supply inventories to support operational needs
- Support and promote research and development initiatives along with the Chemistry Innovation Center
- Maintain strong technical knowledge of chemistry principles and laboratory processes
- Ensure laboratory activities are conducted with accuracy, quality, and attention to detail
- Promote a strong safety culture by participating in safety meetings, hazard identification, and ensuring adherence to Job Safety Analyses (JSAs)
- Identify and report unsafe acts, hazards, or conditions and ensure corrective actions are taken
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and operational guidelines
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by leadership
- Strong understanding of chemistry principles and laboratory operations
- Ability to train and support field personnel in laboratory procedures and practices
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and accuracy
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations for job‑related tasks
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
- Associate’s Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or a related technical field
- 5+ years of cement laboratory experience
- Ability to pass company drug screening and any applicable physical assessments
- Motor vehicle record that qualifies the individual as an approved company driver
- Acceptable criminal background history
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or a related technical field
- Additional general oilfield laboratory experience
- Conventional M-F schedule with standard working hours of 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- This role follows typical oilfield operational flexibility, and the Lab Manager may receive operational calls or requests outside standard working hours. Availability to respond to operational needs beyond standard hours is expected.
Work is primarily performed in a laboratory environment while supporting field operations as needed. Compliance with all company safety policies, procedures, and operational standards is required.
