The Fleet Technician is responsible for providing increasingly complex technical repair and maintenance services for the fleet in accordance with Midland County standards and regularly requirements.
- Public safety installer, up-fitter, and equipment install.
- Install, troubleshoot, test, and remove 12-volt law enforcement vehicle equipment, including but not limited to light bars, flashers, sirens, video cameras, laptops, printers, consoles, transport partitions, equipment boxes, radios, speakers, antennas, and routers.
- Work on law enforcement, public safety, and other vehicles for county purposes.
- Perform vehicle up-fitting services for public safety and public works vehicles, ensuring all installations meet client requirements and industry standards.
- Ability to read wiring schematics
- Ability to route, splice, and solder wiring and cabling
- Install and troubleshooting-car camera systems, mobile data terminals, and mobile radio systems.
- Document all services rendered, and pat issued for all installations or removals performed.
- Keep track of manufacturer warranty
- Keep track of inventory
- On call/over the road repairs for any electrical issues pertaining to the up-fitting setup.
- Shall always maintain assigned vehicle in presentable condition and maintain regular preventative maintenance
- Any additional responsibilities added by the Facilities Director/Operations
- A minimum of 2 years of automotive or marine 12-volt experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of vehicle wiring and ability to identify electrical circuits.
- Experience with installation of emergency lights and siren desired.
- Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks, including accessing confined spaces to modify vehicles.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with others.
- Ability to work on and see small objects, with good hearing and color vision.
- Must be prompt, prepared to work, and capable of lifting 50 pounds to waist level.
- EVT, Panasonic and Motorola Certifications desired but not required upon hire; must be obtained within 3 months to continue employment.
- Valid driver's license with a clean background.
High school graduation or its equivalent, plus at least 2 years of experience of automotive or marine 12-volt; EVT, Panasonic and Motorola Certifications and valid driver's license. Training available for the right candidate. Standard office practices and procedures; and telephone etiquette. General knowledge of two-way radio theory.
Skill/Ability ToOperate computers, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs; write letters and memos; read and understand manuals; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.
