Description

Daily oversight of personnel and work orders for repairs, maintenance and upgrades to HVAC, Mechanical and Refrigeration Equipment at all district facilities. Conduct day‑to‑day operations of the district’s HVAC Mechanical construction and repair projects.

Major Responsibilities
  • Work directly with the F.C.C.S Supervisor in scheduling repairs and modifications of all district mechanical property and equipment.
  • Estimate and secure materials for HVAC Mechanical and Refrigeration Department.
  • Maintain records and schedules of completed jobs, including mechanical and refrigeration repairs and materials used.
  • Communicate with administrators to coordinate schedules for minimal disturbance.
  • Provide skills and procedures to develop and maintain periodic maintenance and repairs on HVAC units, pumps, blowers, valves and controls.
  • Assist Mechanical/Electrical Plumbing departments on various district construction or repair projects.
  • Troubleshoot maintenance problems with HVAC equipment and HVAC controls.
  • Follow instructions and adapt to changes in work assignments.
  • Monitor quality and quantity of work performed by the HVAC Department.
  • Keep the F.C.C.S. Supervisor informed on all projects and work order status.
  • Maintain EPA‑mandated refrigerant records for all district equipment.
  • Follow and enforce the rules and regulations of School Plant Services Department and Midland Independent School District.
  • Coordinate and inspect the design, installation, and quality control of contracted HVAC installations.
  • Provide preliminary evaluations and comments on HVAC staff for performance appraisals.
  • Maintain and process HVAC work orders, invoices, budget schedules, and other production records.
  • Participate in the rotating 24‑hour emergency on‑call beeper service for School Plant Services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the F.C.C.S. Supervisor and Executive Director.
Qualification Requirements

Minimum Certification/Education

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Texas Driver License and acceptable driving record; must adhere to Midland ISD’s vehicle safety & use program.
  • Maintain EPA refrigerant certification – Level I, II & Universal.

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of HVAC Mechanical and refrigeration repairs, maintenance and new construction.
  • General knowledge of building construction and electrical systems.
  • Positive attitude, willingness to work and ability to work independently.
  • Background in HVAC Control Systems and Energy Management Control Systems.
  • Background in energy‑efficient mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read construction documents, drawings and schematic drawings.
  • General computer knowledge.
  • Project a positive attitude and demonstrate willingness to work.
  • Proven ability to manage a group of people.
  • Ability to plan and budget projects.

Minimum Experience

  • Two years prior experience as an HVAC Mechanical or refrigeration repairman.
Physical Demands
  • Moderate lifting, up to 50 lbs.
  • Reaching above shoulder level.
  • Walking, standing, repeated bending and climbing.
  • Use of fingers, ability to distinguish basic colors.
Equipment Used
  • General hand tools and electric power tools typical to the HVAC Mechanical or Refrigeration trades.
  • Standard MISD vehicle, pickup or van as assigned.
  • Ladders, lifts, etc.
  • Standard HVAC repair, diagnostic and electrical metering equipment.
  • Oxygen/acetylene torch and welding/brazing equipment.
  • Office computer and district supported software.
Work Environment
  • Outside and inside, extreme heat or cold.
  • Dirt, dust, refrigerants, chemicals and solvents.
  • Electrical energy exposure.
  • Working on ladders and scaffolding, tight concealed spaces, attics and tunnels.
