Experience
- Previous on‑the‑job experience and knowledge of Access Control and Security Alarm Systems, CATV, etc.
- Prior experience in electronics/alarm system repair and maintenance, telecommunications cable installation.
- 2‑year security systems, communications and CATV repair and troubleshooting.
- Electronics certificate preferred.
Position Function/Purpose
Will be responsible for assisting the supervisor of surveillance and access controls with the installation and maintenance of access controls, security alarms, video/audio camera systems, network/audio camera systems, CATV systems and associated devices and peripherals. Responsibilities also include computer repair, daily work orders for troubleshooting all security systems hardware/software installations, and assisting campuses with access control scheduling and access card maintenance.

Functions
Responsible for the completion of all work orders and projects assigned by the Supervisor of Surveillance and Access Controls regarding the installation of wiring for security systems, alarms, CATV systems, and troubleshooting/configuring equipment.Assist campus and administrative staff with access control scheduling and MISD staff credentialing related to accessing MISD buildings.Maintain and repair campus computers.Perform Local Area Network troubleshooting and repairs using network testing equipment and Cat6 cabling tools.Communicate with campus personnel on scheduling of work to minimize classroom disturbance.Report on the status of assignments and projects to the Supervisor of Surveillance or Access Control.New installation, mounting, and configuration of access controls, security alarms and associated equipment in school facilities.Cross‑train with Access Control Operator to gain knowledge of surveillance and reporting.Perform all other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Surveillance and Access Controls or MISD Chief of Police.Qualification Requirements
Knowledge of wiring techniques including the installation of alarm system equipment and devices.Familiar with electrical code to provide for proper installation of security system cabling in existing and new facilities.Knowledge or experience with electronic troubleshooting procedures to verify wiring integrity; familiar with electronic test equipment such as VOM and tracers.Able to distinguish between various colors.Ability to keep privileged information confidential.Valid Texas Driver's License.Physical Demands
Heavy lifting and carrying, 45 lbs. on a regular basis and 100 lbs. on a limited basis.Reaching above shoulders.Use of fingers, arms, and legs.Repeated bending.Heights up to 50 ft.Working in small confined spaces.Regular attendance required.Equipment Used
