Job Description

Title: Preventative Maintenance Worker
Location: Midland, Texas
Department: School Plant Services
Employment Type: Full‑time (Non‑Exempt)
Start Date: Immediately

Essential Functions
  • Clean all heating and air conditioning equipment (e.g., coils, drain pans, chillers, air compressors).
  • Check thermostats, valve or damper operations to ensure proper function.
  • Calibrate controls so equipment operates per specifications.
  • Grease or oil equipment as scheduled.
  • Check and replace belts and other scheduled equipment.
  • Keep PM crew leader and operations supervisor informed of all projects and work order status.
  • Substitute temporarily for an absent building engineer or assistant building engineer at Lee High, Midland High, or the Administration Building as assigned.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by PM Foreman or Director of Maintenance.
  • Maintain and clean mechanical rooms.
  • Work with contractors for air filter procurement and installation.
  • Provide various duties for all departments within the maintenance department, including water treatment system assistance.
  • Qualifications

    Education:

    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Valid Texas Driver’s License

    Knowledge/

    Skills:

  • Knowledge of air conditioning, heating equipment, controls, and building systems (beneficial).
  • Experience
    • Knowledge of building systems equipment repair and maintenance.
    Physical Demands
  • Heavy lifting and carrying.
  • Reaching above shoulders.
  • Use of fingers, arms, legs.
  • Repeated bending.
  • Regular attendance required.
  • Equipment Used
  • Standard hand tools and power tools used in general HVAC repair and maintenance.
  • MISD pick‑up or van or other similar vehicle.
  • Ladders.
  • Lifts.
  • Platforms.
  • Scaffolds.
  • Work Environment
  • Outside and inside.
  • Excessive dampness or chilling, or heat.
  • Constant noise, fumes, dust, dirt.
  • Solvents, chemicals.
  • Electrical energy.
  • Working around machinery with moving parts.
  • Working from ladders or in tight confined spaces such as attics, crawl spaces, or equipment tunnels.
